At the same time, words such as “brutal,” “attack,” “evil,” and “weapon” - though heartfelt - are themselves part of the language of conflict. For peace, our words need to open pathways to resolution, not reinforce division.

Ahead of Ukraine’s Independence Day, Diana and I attended a concert by the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra, conducted by @kerilynnwilson, at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic. By brutally attacking Ukraine, Russia targets not only its cities and people but also Ukrainian culture that has been built over centuries. To overcome this evil, we must support Ukraine by every means possible. Art too is a weapon — one that unites freedom-loving people, nations and states.

#Ukraine frames the war as a fight for survival & sovereignty. #Russia frames it as defending security & historic destiny. Two opposing narratives - both deeply entrenched. Diplomacy begins when we ask: Is there another way of looking at the world?

Ukraine & Russia remain locked in opposing narratives. Mediation begins when both sides see: “There is another way of looking at the world.” Without that perceptual shift, agreements collapse. With it, reconciliation becomes possible. #Ukraine #Russia #Mediation
