Berlin Marathon 2023 🇩🇪✅ Trained for 2:44 (very ambitious) and knew early it wasn't on. Changed target to 2:49 after 10k but when the marathon senses weakness it has no mercy. Fell to bits from 36k. So delighted with a 2:51 and a 5 min 2s PB. @berlinmarathon #BerlinMarathon

@mattrandle42 @nw_nicholas They’re written off after 30 years so either scrap them now or wait until 2046 for the first batch of plan 2 loans to be written off and pay them then with all the added interest…

I was surprised to find that student loans are not run by banks, but a government company, with Secretary of State as shareholder. They must write them off.

@drhicksbakers @gaz_manley @Landeur @deeemacd I’m not making excuses for anyone. I’m just saying there will be people in those shoes that are genuinely unable but on a side note. Well done to you 👏🏻. Genuine.

@ConnorHinders92 @gaz_manley @Landeur @deeemacd I’m white working class . Grew up to a single mum on a council estate and was given zero help from anyone Stop making excuses for people who don’t want to…. Got an apprenticeship and kept showing up. We borrowed food from neighbors. Now I feed the neighbors It’s doable

You didn't pay for your pension. I am paying for your pension. Worth remembering.
Optiere@optiere

@DespairAtNone @Landeur A pension is something you pay for in advance. In other words, you've already paid for it. A student loan is money given to you that you may have to pay back if you earn enough.

@drhicksbakers @gaz_manley @Landeur @deeemacd “If I can do it, then you can too” would suggest a level playing field and that just simply isn’t the case. One person will find getting on the property ladder and preparing for retirement a hell of a lot easier than someone else. Purely due to socio-economic backgrounds

@drhicksbakers @gaz_manley @Landeur @deeemacd I never said it was the states fault? We were on about pensions and brought up property and flexed that you owned a few. It started how pension benefit is highly unsustainable in its current format. Just because you’re sorted doesn’t mean there won’t be millions who aren’t.

@gaz_manley @drhicksbakers @Landeur @deeemacd But you read the thoughts of boomers on here and they aren’t exactly open to the idea of providing security for future generations are they? Some of the population will be fortunate to not rely on the pension benefit. For others they’ll be utterly dependent on it

@gaz_manley @drhicksbakers @Landeur @deeemacd I never said they’d get rid of it. I said it would become unsustainable and therefore collapse and cease to exist unless reformed. That means current or soon to be pensioners receiving less of a pension benefit to enable to state pension to exist long term.

@drhicksbakers @gaz_manley @Landeur @deeemacd The logic of commissioning the report isn’t exactly the point of the post. We all know any government spend money unwisely. The point is most people either a) aren’t educated financially from a young age and/or b) don’t have the financial capacity in this current economic.

@drhicksbakers @gaz_manley @Landeur @deeemacd Quite literally isn’t though is it. Someone on low income is highly to not have the ability chance and opportunity to save into 2 private pensions and/or property. Some people struggle to purchase a home to call their own never mind a portfolio of properties.

@ConnorHinders92 @gaz_manley @Landeur @deeemacd The same chance and opportunity as everyone else I started paying into 2 private pensions at 19 I’m now 37. We also have property, and are trying to acquire more in the next 30 YEARS Not daft enough to rely on the state for my retirement plans

@OAPJo On average a person born in 1956 will receive £291k more on pension welfare benefit than they actually paid into the scheme. There is no magic pot. You pay for the pensioners of today.

Dear DWP, my pension is not a ‘benefit’ - I paid into it for over 40 years and had 6 years worth stolen from me to pay the banks. Please, stop referring to my paid-for pension as a ‘benefit’.. it isn’t!

@drhicksbakers @gaz_manley @Landeur @deeemacd I’m not angry. Just stating the fact that the state pension is close to being unsustainable as early as 2035 due to triple lock. So what chance have people currently of working age got of receiving the state pension that the prior generations before them received

@drhicksbakers @gaz_manley @Landeur @deeemacd If everyone pays tax across generations then the same benefits should apply across generations. I pay for current pensioners pensions. Just as they paid for the pensions in the generation before them. Will there be a pension when a ~30yo reaches retirement?

@drhicksbakers @gaz_manley @Landeur @deeemacd Ok so what if someone pays for 50 years and isn’t looked after because the state pension has collapsed for any reason whatsoever. You can’t then use the “well your school was paid for by taxation” argument because everyone’s was so that generation could rightly feel hard done by

@Landeur @deeemacd But who paid for your schools, emergency services, hospitals etc when you were growing up? Tax payers foot the bill for young and old. Not just the elderly

@keithdunn Nah. I couldn’t find my way in that after a full nights sleep and just on a leisurely stroll with the dog. Nevermind racing against the clock, cut to pieces, sleep deprived and searching for books 🤣 Anyone that gets to loop 4 is done for
