Strikes will GO AHEAD from 17-22 December, after resident doctors in England voted overwhelmingly to reject the latest offer from @wesstreeting.

Explaining why circumstances are untenable for resident doctors to @ChronicleLive today on the picket line at the RVI. Gov needs to wake up + invest into doctors for the future of the NHS and patients. With a meaningful expansion on training places and not a real terms 2% pay cut

Stunning turnout from @BMANorthernRDC resident doctors (despite the rain!) at the RVI in Newcastle! ✊🧡 Clear message from our members to government - solve the jobs crisis and stop eroding our pay. @TheBMA @BMAResidents

@wesstreeting I'm a qualified doctor. I am paid less than a physician assistant. I will likely have no job soon as there is a critical shortage of training places and a disastrous recruitment process. Who's being held to ransom?

The BMA regard a 28.9% pay rise as ‘crumbs’. They do not acknowledge the sacrifices made by taxpayers - or my responsibility to other NHS staff paid far less than doctors. They are trying to hold the NHS and our country to ransom and we can’t give in to this behaviour.
Dr Melissa Ryan 🦀@Melissa_S_Ryan

As we told you earlier, divisive tactics won’t work. All residents deserve the next step on the journey to FPR. Crumbs like this don’t cut it. Neither do recommendations for more below inflation pay awards next year. You have the power to avert these strikes. Act now.

@wesstreeting We will not have the public's access to doctors, nor our own careers, used as bargaining chips. UK trained doctors continue to leave the country and even the profession! We are in a worsening medical unemployment crisis and yet the sticking plaster proposals continue.

Resident doctors strikes, coming after a 28.9% pay increase, are self-defeating for doctors, damaging to patients and our efforts to rebuild our NHS. My letter to resident doctors with an offer to expand jobs and improve conditions.

@PayReviewBodies @DHSCgovuk Can only afford a 47p pay rise. No movement on paltry 1000 additional training places. Re-hash of the same vague promises. Claiming doctors aren't being forced out of training. This so-called "evidence" must be from an alternate reality.

@wesstreeting We will not be belittled. We are a group of professionals fighting to stay in the profession we love. You could've funded more training posts and made changes to manage the volume of applications months ago. Our colleagues are going unemployed on your watch, Wes.

We can deliver on jobs, training places and conditions for resident doctors. Our ability to do so will be hamstrung by unnecessary and irresponsible strike action. My message to the BMA is simple: call off the strikes, come back to the table and improve doctors’ lives.

How has not one ‘journalist’ asked obvious follow up questions; - If that’s true, why haven’t you tabled these new jobs in an offer to the BMA since the last strikes months ago? - The NHS needs more doctors, there are doctors available, so why are you sitting on your hands?
Saul Staniforth@SaulStaniforth

Wes Streeting, from the party of organised labour, threatens workers that if they go out on strike over pay he'll cancel their essential training. Labour, on the side of working people until they stand up for themselves, & then its sneers & threats.

@DHSCgovuk @wesstreeting When you're stuck in A&E with a 12 hour wait, remember that Wes Streeting didn't employ more doctors to look "strong and tough". We need rapid solutions to this workforce crisis and instead the DHSC focuses on turning access to doctors into a political game. Shameful.

There have been months of talks. We’re on the precipice of another job cycle. Tens of thousands of doctors will be turned away. Doctors need jobs & patients need doctors. Waiting lists up, patients in corridors. We need changes now to recruit & value doctors, not in 2 years.
Resident Doctors@BMAResidents

"No credible Government offer was put forward despite months of talking." Read @BMAResidents chair @fletchjack's letter to @wesstreeting explaining why resident doctors have announced strike action in November.👇

Northern doctors: I’m standing for re-election in the BMA with Sheryl + Connor. Why? Northern drs are worried about progression, as well as pay. We’re fighting for: 1️⃣ more jobs 2️⃣ progression (no bottlenecks) 3️⃣ improved conditions 4️⃣ pay Vote now! bit.ly/BMAVoteNorthern

I was on the RVI picket line on Fri. Those doctors’ biggest issue? Job security/ progression. That means securing a core/ s’ty training job to progress. This graph assumes progression. Yet in 2024 - 49,904 applications for 9,331 core jobs. Drs not progressing. Pay flatlined.
Sky News@SkyNews

54% of resident doctors earn £76,700, according to the @NuffieldTrust. @TrevorPTweets asks the BMA's @thomasdolphin if this makes the resident doctor's negotiating position an 'odd and extraordinary demand.' trib.al/mhxdaXU #TrevorPhillips 📺 Sky 501 and YouTube

Northern Resident Doctors 🪧 Regional picket line at the RVI 📆 Friday 25th July ⏰ 8.00am - 11.00am Show Streeting and the Government that if they won’t make a reasonable offer to restore our pay that you are ready to fight for it!

Talks with the Government are ongoing, but with no credible offer on the table our work to restore pay and value continues. Strike action is nothing without pickets. And picket lines are nothing without people. Find your nearest picket: bma.org.uk/rdpicketlines #PayRestoration

Hundreds of resident doctors across our region are facing unemployment. Not enough specialty training posts & huge NHS cuts are leaving doctors without jobs in August. As a temporary measure, we have called on all trusts to support & protect doctors in our region through this.
