The Rice Weed Management Program had a busy week planting/water-seeding the bulk of our research trials on the Rice Research Station. Here’s a couple photos from the week. @LSUAgCenter

Command injury plus flooding plus 5 days of 25+ mph winds plus cold and cloudy weather. Fortunately rice is a resilient crop and as we head into a stretch of more favorable growing conditions I expect our rice to make a 180 by the end of the week.

Doesn’t look like I’m going to be planting plots in this area for a while but at least it’s being utilized. We received 10.5 inches of rain here at the Rice Research Station South Farm in Crowley, LA this past weekend.

@AgWriterVLBoyd This is pretty common. The big draw is reduced tillage requirements due to the lack of boat ruts.

This guy was pushing a small boat through #crawfish ponds in south #Louisiana. I've never seen them fish like this before. It's always been boats with mini-paddle wheels in the back. Has anybody else seen them fish this way? It looks like a ton of work wading through the fields

Congratulations to Maranda Hains for finishing first place in the student talk competition and to Wesley Carr for finishing third in the student poster competition this week at the International Temperate Rice Conference in New Orleans. Hard work pays off.

Annie helped me plant the last of my research plots in Crowley today. She got to see fertilizer going out and even an alligator. My dad and uncle @Eric5Webster both grew up on a research station, so I am glad I get to share moments like this with my daughter.

Many already know, but I'm very excited to announce I have accepted an Assistant Professor/Extension Rice Agronomist position with @AgriLife. If you know me, you know positions like this are a dream come true. Let's get to work, Texas!
