The question must be why are these people coming here to visit, only to go home to where they believe they have a better shot at prosperity? Ask how many companies and jobs these tourists stay here with because they can make profits and keep them?

@ConradAppel This is restaurant closing season. Every year after Jazz Fest, about 25 restaurants close for good.

It seems like every morning when I read the news, another restaurant is closing in New Orleans. My suspicion is that though the atmosphere and food may be great, these places violate the fundamental rule of real estate, location, location, location

I was under the impression that that the New Orleans Clerk of Court was a state agency. If so how can the Council call for a special election? Doesn't that also fly in the face of their own argument about disenfranchising voters who elected the current Clerk? Am I wrong?

The bad outcome of clinging to Louisiana populism while ignoring economic reality for decades

With the controversy about reform in New Orleans, we must evaluate legislation only through the lens of two criteria, is current policy effective and efficient; if not, does proposed law make it so? If you think about it, all government should operate that way.

The way to bend the education outcomes curve follows reform, high standards, and accountability. Commitment by legislators is fundemental. We must all thank Chairmen Schlegal and Edmonds for their vision and courage, accepting the premise that all Louisiana kids can learn.

I guess this guy is so obsessed with race that he won't address the obvious question. Do these state courts operate effectively and efficiently? These should be the goals for all of government, not protecting the jobs of politicians

What I don't get is the steady stream of obvious promotions for this event by WWL. It sure seems like they are acting far beyond journalism.

The amount of money being paid to so many public and civic leaders is concerning. There appears to be little linkage between salary and results, the very definition of meritocracy that we should be demanding.

The fiscal crisis in New Orleans could be a good government windfall. The city may abandon its practices of being everything to everyone using undependable revenue sources & instead focus on basic city priorities. Bloated government is great until you run out of free money.
