When these conditions are not met, validity drifts away. Researchers might think they're still studying the same thing, but the new procedure is actually invalid. For instance, many procedures for assessing depression in non-human animal models probably aren't valid.

New paper coming out in @TheBJPS: "Validity drifts in psychiatric research". The paper is about measurement validity. I develop the notion of 'validity drift' and apply it to psychiatric research on depression, and fear and anxiety disorders. philpapers.org/rec/MICVDI
