The only time the police should release details of an ongoing investigation is if it is in the public interest to do so, not simply because the public is interested. Those calling for the release of additional information should stop, and speculation is unhelpful at best, harmful at worst and irresponsible either way. Policing must be restored, as per our plan “Restoring British Policing” but I have every confidence the police will release further information on this case when it is appropriate to do so.
