@misumuzi_4 Was it expected of hin to state "step-mother"? Did he know her as a step mother or just a mother to him? I think the lens used to interrogate this part of his life was unfair. As an African, he accepted his father's wife as his mother and probably the woman was motherly indeed.

🎈‼️🔥 Six Reasons Why I say Julius Mkhwanazi misled the Madlanga Commission to secure a postponement and the evidence strongly supports this conclusion. 1. Initial claim used to obtain postponement: Mkhwanazi requested a delay of his testimony (around 23 March 2026) by stating that his mother had died. Both he and his legal representative referred to the deceased as his mother, and he explicitly emphasized this relationship without offering any clarification. 2. Official records contradicted his claim: Documents from Home Affairs, the death notice, and his birth certificate showed the deceased was born in 1965, while Mkhwanazi was born in 1975, making her only 10 years older. This made the claim biologically implausible and raised immediate doubts once the records were reviewed. 3. Change in version after being confronted: Only under cross-examination (today 14 April 2026) did Mkhwanazi shift his explanation, stating she was actually his stepmother who raised him. This critical detail was not disclosed when requesting the postponement, but only emerged after evidence exposed the inconsistency. 4. Misrepresentation by omission in a formal setting: As a senior law enforcement official appearing before a commission, Mkhwanazi had a duty to be precise. By omitting the stepmother detail while insisting she was his mother, he created a false impression that influenced the Commission’s decision which fits the definition of misrepresentation by omission. (He had his lawyer present) 5. Weakness of the cultural defence: His argument that “in our culture we don’t use ‘step’” does not hold in this context. While culturally understandable in everyday life, this was a formal legal proceeding, where clarity and accuracy are essential, especially when requesting an indulgence. 6. Pattern of evasiveness: The incident aligns with broader concerns raised during proceedings about inconsistencies and shifting explanations in his testimony, further weakening claims of an innocent mistake. Conclusion: The sequence of events shows that Mkhwanazi secured a postponement on a misleading premise, only corrected his version after being confronted with evidence, and continues to deny wrongdoing. The argument is that this was not a cultural misunderstanding, but deliberate deception.

@Royalkamza @misumuzi_4 His father chose to marry a woman 10years older than one of his children. This part is not Julius's issue. He was a child.

@D_Molatoli @Thokoza88288017 No. He did not have to say that. He did not have a step mother. He had a mother. We shouldn't reduce or deny our family relations to fit with a Western understanding of who were are. I am happy that sanity prevailed. I am not his fan but I am happy he stood his ground on this.

@Thokoza88288017 This man failed to explain things properly to Commissioner Baloyi. The lady was his stepmother. He should have just said that to avoid all this unnecesary confusion.

Commissioner Mkhwanazi is causing confusion here. He buried his mother a month ago, hence his appearance was postponed to today. He said he was the second born of seven kids of this lady. Now, Advocate Sello discovered that the mother he's talking about was 10 years older than him. He's 1975, this lady was born in 1965. He says she was the step mother who brought him up. He cannot explain things properly. 😭 It's going to be a long day! #MadlangaCommission

@KomradeGeorge @D_Molatoli It was scary at some point. And they were working hard to discredit his family background. Like you said, let him go to jail for the right reasons not failures of his upbringing.

@D_Molatoli Common sense prevailed. It was a ridiculous assertion arising from darkies thinking like white people simply because they're thinking in english and speaking in english. I want Mkwanazi to go to jail but for the right reasons.

@KomradeGeorge @D_Molatoli Mkhwanazi's father chose to marry a woman who was just 10 years older than one of his children. Julius should not be punished for that. Also to him, the woman was motherly, he didn't need to reduce her to the Western conception of familial relations of 'step' relatives.

@Shane_Driller @pule_jones I agree. The wrong lens was used to interrogate his family background, which was wrong, particularly in the South African context with all its layered history of displacement etc.

@pule_jones True. But because we are colonized we still have clarify this point to even black commissioners and black eveidence leaders. This reveals that we subconsciously know that in white spaces the is a difference and the application of the law generally swings to white interpretation.

This presents a very interesting and contentious point. Was his statement, "I'm burying my mother," a misrepresentation? Was it obligatory for him to specify, "I'm burying my 'stepmother'"? Culturally, a stepmother is often considered equivalent to a mother, is that not the case? #MadlangaCommission

@pule_jones In most African contexts there are no step mothers. Also, some cultures there are rituals to "put the child in the mother's womb" so to break the barrier of strangeness. It has more depth that the Western adoption. Sensitivity was required for this part...

@heisthemediator @sile_siba He explained that he never received a birthday certificate. Everything was done by granny. Thus the certificate from HA says his gran is his mother not the "step". Also, HA didn't record the prestep children as his dad's children. His story makes sense if read wth n African lens

@sile_siba Julius was just caught lying. According to Julius his mother gave birth to his brother when she was 9 years. This level of lying must be studied in Harvard University

@heisthemediator @sile_siba People, did you listen to him or you simply just wrote him off before ge said a word? His parents separated. There was a dispute. Granny registered them as hers. At age 8, dad married a person who then became his mother till she died. To him, she was never a step-mother.

@Likazi2 @sile_siba @Sunflowerreal It does make sense. The father made the choise to marry a woman 8yrs older than his first child. It cannot be the children's fault. I truly believe that this part required some sensitivity and an understanding of "families" in SA with SA history in mind.

@kaSompisi_ This is especially true in his case because he says there was a dispute over his and his brother's custody. Gogo must have been saving the kids than intentionally bending the law for benefit. I am not Mkhwanazi's fan but this was a harsh approach.

@ConverseChatty1 What I also found disturbing is the evidence leader regarding home affairs records as “factual”. We know for a fact that home affairs records are a mess due to historical events of SA. We know already that grandparents register their grandkids as their own in trying to help.

There is something that a Western lens will not fully understand about African family structures. Generally, in African settings there are no step-mothers. If the so-called step-mother raised the children, she is the mother. In other cultures, there are even rituals done to

@kaSompisi_ Thanks. My point exactly. That the records show that his mother is 10yrs older than him is explained from a different lens. He never saw the woman as a step mother. She was his mother. Whybshould he now be held in contempt for coming from the family he has.

@ConverseChatty1 Their narrative is that he is a liar, he’s been lying to the commission in terms of his involvement in criminal infiltrations. Which is fine. But when it comes to family history, which is something that was not within his control, they should apply different thinking here.

@Newzroom405 revise the statement that Mkhwanazi lied to the commission about the death of his mother. Get the facts and understand his family structure before labelling him a lier on this issue. Actually, the wrong lens is used to interrogate his family structure/background
