ICYMI: Cook County’s top prosecutor offers alternative to jail for Chicago teens accused of serious crimes. The program will use $1 million in new funding to provide academic and after-school support services to teen boys awaiting trial, offering meaningful interventions.

Prosecutors successfully sought detention for two defendants who are accused of robbing a CTA bus passenger at knifepoint near McCormick Place on 12/15/25. We will continue to seek detention for all violent crime committed on public transportation.

Putting violent offenders on electronic monitoring endangers the public and creates a false sense of security. The current system lacks law enforcement oversight, isn't adequately monitored, and allows for two free "movement" days. It's not working. Here's what else I said:

SA Burke, Investigations Bureau Chief Jim Roache and Commander Kevin Ceh recently recognized 2 sergeants and 8 investigators in the Domestic Violence Unit. These investigators personally contact DV victims to provide court information, transportation, and other assistance.

Thank you to ATF and all of the law enforcement officers who came out to receive training on the lethality of machinegun conversion devices. The training illustrated the immense danger these devices pose and why we must collaborate to ensure they don't circulate on the streets.

Safety on the CTA is essential for Chicago to thrive. That's why on Day 1, I instituted a policy to protect the millions of residents who rely on public transit in their daily lives. My office now seeks detention for any violent felony offense committed on public transit.
