The Cook County Sheriff’s Police Animal Crimes Unit helped rescue a dozen puppies and two adult dogs who had been abandoned in Harvey. On May 14, investigators and Cook County Animal Control went to the 15400 block of Campbell Drive to find two Pit bull mix dogs, one male and one female, who had been observed in the area. Investigators located both dogs as well as 12 Pit bull mix puppies, who were less than a week old, and learned their owner moved and left the dogs behind. The dogs were transported to the South Suburban Humane Society, where they are staying until they are adopted by loving families. Anyone interested in adoption may reach out to the South Suburban Humane Society at 708-755-7387. #CookCountySheriff #NationalRescueDogDay #AnimalRescue #AdoptDontShop

An attempt to flood the secondary retail market with stolen merchandise bit the dust after the Sheriff’s Police Organized Retail Crime Unit recovered $1.5 million worth of laptop computers. On May 14, Organized Retail Crime investigators received information that a 53-foot trailer that had been reported stolen earlier in the week from Bridgeview may be in the 100 block of North Austin Avenue in Chicago. Investigators located the trailer with the laptops inside and learned that the truck attached to the trailer also had been reported stolen. The thefts remain under investigation. The Organized Retail Crime unit has recovered more than $10 million in stolen merchandise since forming in 2023. #CookCountySheriff #LawEnforcement #CCSPD

Martha’s big day is finally here! 🐾 After joining our Tails of Redemption program back in May 2024, Martha has officially found her furever home! Martha wasn't just a resident; she was a pro. She mastered her basic obedience and became our "lead canine," helping teach new IICs the ropes because she was just that good. After several park trips and apartment visits with one of our very own officers, he decided it was time to make things official. Martha, we are so proud of the dog you’ve become and couldn’t be happier for you and your new dad. Cheers to a beautiful new chapter! ✨ #TailsOfRedemption #CookCountySheriff #FureverHome #GotchaDay #SuccessStory #AdoptDontShop

More than just a uniform.🧸💙 While patrolling in Des Plaines, our officers stopped to say hello to kids playing at the park. We even had some stickers and "stuffie" friends to hand out! A huge thank you to the parent who snapped this photo and shared it with us—it’s always a highlight of our shift when we get to build these positive connections with our youth. #OfficersInThePark #CCSPD #CommunityFirst #CookCountySheriff

A 36-year-old Chicago man has been charged after a Sheriff’s Office drone caught a burglary of a railcar in real time. At approximately 2:30 a.m. on May 10, Cook County Sheriff’s Police were working with Union Pacific Railroad Police on a joint cargo theft operation when the drone spotted someone entering a cargo container on a train stopped near 26th Street and Western Avenue in Chicago. On the morning of May 11, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Lee with burglary and possession of burglary tools. He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of trespassing on railroad property. Lee was ordered released from custody on May 11, following his initial court appearance at the George N.
