Final round is today for Principal Clarinet of the Nashville Symphony, job I got canceled from in 2020. It’s their third attempt to replace me – first audition was canceled for COVID, second audition the guy who won got screwed by the same people who took me out and didn’t get tenure. Job is cursed and everyone knows it. $90k to play clarinet for 44 weeks sounds nice but that’s not what the job is now, it’s carrying around a DEI demon who can’t play and won’t hesitate to ruin your life if you don’t bow to his schtick. I couldn’t do it, let’s see if today’s winner can. To whoever wins today: Enjoy your audition because it’ll be the last beautiful playing you ever do in that hall. After today, a black cloud hangs over everything you do, with no signs of it ever dissipating. Better you than me.
