I am hearing that internal resistance is the #1 barrier for leaders trying to move to an Agentic AI-first organization.
Here are my thoughts on the problem and how to address it.
The Future Is Agentic; But Resistance Is Real
We are standing at a defining moment for organizations: the move to Agentic AI-first operating models is no longer optional. It's an imperative. However, as any seasoned executive knows, introducing even the most promising innovation will hit a wall if your people aren't coming with you.
You may already feel it, such as resistance from within, hesitation, delays, and doubts. These reactions are not signs of failure; they're signs of change. And change, if not guided well, quickly breeds fear.
But there's a way forward..
Resistance Isn't the Problem; It's a Signal
In ADKAR terms, resistance is often a gap in Awareness, Desire, or Knowledge. It isn't enough to unveil a vision of an AI-first future—you need to decode what's blocking your people from embracing it.
As a change coach and organizational transformation specialist, I've seen this pattern repeat across industries. Three core fears usually sit at the heart of resistance:
1) Fear of the unknown
"What does this mean for me, my team, and our future?"
2) Fear of redundancy or irrelevance
"Will AI replace me? Will I still be needed?"
3) Fear of inadequate support
"How will I learn what I need? Will I be left behind?"
If you're hearing whispers like these or sensing them in the silence, this is your moment to lead, not react.
