I've been seeing a lot of talk about mentoring on here lately so I wanted to give my comments. Also, because being selected for the Outstanding Postdoc Mentor Award gave me a lil' boost of confidence to discuss my viewpoint at this point in my life. So- a 🧵

Some great news to end this year! The Fernandez Lab will open its door soon @CincyChildrens! We are broadly interested in understanding how the body and brain encode environmental stimuli, such as daily changes in light, to timely coordinate physiology and behavior (1/4)

If you are looking for a supportive PI in your next phase of research, check out Juan’s lab. He has acted as a mentor to me throughout my time as a postdoc at the NIH. Can confirm he is one of the best out there!
Juan Angueyra@Juanonyme

Only announced it during conferences, but I am super excited to start my lab in January 2023 in the excellent @UMDBiology, and as part of the @bbiumd. The lab will continue working on retinal development and visual processing in #zebrafish. Come join us! Hiring at all levels.

Anyone know a good commercially available melanopsin antibody for mouse tissue? Apparently N38/N39 from Advanced Targeting have a new lot, and it really doesn’t work particularly well, really glad I spend $500 on postage 🤦🏼‍♀️ #melanopsin

Check out Harris’s (@ZeZhangSleep) fun 1 minute video, produced with a science communications style to explain our recent nature communications work. Great acting from incoming Rockefeller PhD student @martinathurman

Well it happened….I can’t say I’m too surprised. Don’t have any symptoms and feel fine, just very inconvenient. I feel like COVID has ruined enough in the last few years #isolatingnotsciencing

The retina processes visual information via ON and OFF pathways. We know that the ON pathway–from rodents to primates–is remarkably dispensable for image-forming vision. Humans with ON pathway mutations (known as CS night blindness) often don’t realize they have vision deficits!
