199 Democrats voted AGAINST a clean three week extension of the FISA National Security Law for political purposes. When the bill went down, they APPLAUDED. They are willing to JEOPARDIZE the safety and the security of the American people to make a cheap political point. I pray that we do not have a serious calamity on our shores.

And the Democrats, 199 of them, voted against it and applauded themselves as they left the building. What would be the point of going through this exercise over and over? "The House has done every single thing. House Republicans have stood and led for the safety and security of the American people, and Democrats are playing political games. God talk is SO foreign to MS NOW. Katy Tur: What about this passage from Mike Johnson declaring that our rights do not derive from government? They come from you, our creator and heavenly father. Is this him putting God over the Declaration of Independence? McKay Coppins: I actually think that that idea is not wholly uncommon. I mean, the idea that we have certain inalienable rights that come from god can be read in a fairly benign way, which is basically that we have innate human rights, that our constitution and our government, our democratic government are meant to codify. Right. That idea is not totally abnormal.

House GOP actually passed a bill that would reopen DHS, but ok 🧐 Would be more accurate for NYT to say House GOP rejected Senate bill that left ICE & CBP unfunded, passed rival bill Why does the distinction matter? Ending the shutdown on this “deal” would come at the expense of ICE & CBP civilian support staff, who are still not being paid - despite the frontline law enforcement officers being funded thru 2029 under OBBB. Staff would have been permanently locked out under the Senate deal, unless/until R’s can pass a second reconciliation bill. Which looks like a loooong uphill battle.
