Affirmative action of the past would fill spots in order to meet quotas sometimes forgoing standards. My dad and brother went to Stanford. It doesn't matter for me personally. But if we want an upwardly mobile society where a kid from rural tx can go to Stanford and have a chance at elite VC /PE we'll have to give some form of consideration. Otherwise it will be mostly rich kids, international kids and kids from the coasts. For generations.

I used to think only grades and sat scores should be factored in, but I now think socioeconomic status should be a factor as well. A 1400 sat from a kid from the inner city or Appalachia is just as impressive as a 1500 from a kid from Beverly hills. A small percentage of slots should be for people like that. We don't all start from the same place in life and that should be acknowledged. Its good and promotes upward mobility. Take race out. It's too controversial and imprecise. Denzel Washington's kids don't need AA, they've had every opportunity.

Reading this headline you’d think Yale admitted 50 or 100 or 1000 black medical students. It is the grand total of 44 black students compared to 100s of Asian and White students that has caused this furor. Sending hugs to all black students who will suffer abuse.
