PAPYRUS WEEKLY ROUNDUP
As we stepped into the new year, PAPYRUS has hit the ground running, making significant strides in our mission to break down the stigma surrounding suicide prevention and spreading hope in communities across the country. Here's a snapshot of what we've been up to this week:
💜 @lammashow at NEC, Birmingham: This week, our England North team attended the UK's leading agricultural machinery, equipment and services show. Here, we engaged with the farming community, discussing HOPELINE247 and challenging stigma that surrounds suicide in the industry. We were honoured to participate in a panel discussion, exploring the crucial question: "Is it time to change how we talk about mental health challenges in farming?"
💜 Workshop at University of Wales Trinity Saint David: As part of @UWTSD Students' Union Inclusion Week 2024, we delivered a workshop on suicide prevention and awareness, helping to promote a supportive environment for students.
💜 Community participation: Our incredible supporters have been active nationwide! Anna Wilkes is just one fundraiser who has braced the cold this week to complete the Richmond Park Half Marathon, raising an impressive £1,400 for PAPYRUS. It's people like Anna that enable us to continue our life-saving work across the UK.
💜 Debbie Hollinson's mission: This week, Debbie Hollinson shared her powerful story on our website after the heartbreaking loss of her daughter, Darcy, in 2021. Since losing Darcy, Debbie has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of how communities can work together to prevent more young suicides. Read the story here: papyrus-uk.org/darcy-hollinso…
💜 Collaboration with @CentralYMCAUK: We have been proud to collaborate with Central YMCA, delivering sessions on suicide prevention to enhance the team's confidence and understanding of the subject.
💜@CornwallYFC: Throughout the week, we have held two information evenings, hosted for those undertaking the main Young Farmer club roles, covering all aspects of ‘Supporting our YFC Family’. This initiative arose following recent losses, emphasising the importance of breaking down the stigma within the community.
💜 Northern Ireland Health & Wellbeing Fair: Despite the weather challenges, our Northern Ireland team visited Larne Library for the community's Health & Wellbeing Fair. The event involved plenty of community engagement as well as a great networking opportunity, and to finish the day, local poet Rebekah Crilly performed a tribute in memory of her nephew Matthew, lost to suicide.
💜 Special visit from @columeastwood MP: At the back end of last week, leader of the SDL, Colum Eastwood MP, visited our Foyle office, expressing deep appreciation for our work in his constituency. Together, we aim to promote PAPYRUS across Foyle an further afield.
