The US agreed to transfer $12 billion of Iranian money frozen in Qatar as a gesture of goodwill. Netanyahu said no; Trump pulled back. How can Iran ever trust any deal with a president that changes his mind by the hour?

#Pentecoste

The announcement by President Trump about the potential peace deal is very good news. To make the deal effective we have to be realistic about Israel. We must recognize that a peace deal of any kind with the Iranian regime will be viewed by Israelis as an existential threat to their objectives, therefore they will seek to thwart the deal. To stop the Israelis from thwarting a potential peace deal, we will have to take away the military support that we provide that allows them to go on the offensive against Iran, and make it clear more will be taken from them if they attack Lebanon.

BREAKING! Trump announces, after having had phone calls with the leaders of Saudi, UAE, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain - and separately with Israel - a deal between the US and Iran, subject to final approval, has essentially been reached. If you were wondering why warmongers in Washington have been freaking out, it's because of this: Peace is their nightmare. A few points: 1. Trump knows he will be attacked for this deal. The regional anchoring of this deal is not only important for its viability on the ground, but it also gives him a degree of protection in Washington. Obama managed to get massive international backing for his deal, but limited to lukewarm anchoring in the region. 2. Trump uses "The Islamic Republic of Iran," instead of just Iran, which will be noticed in Tehran. 3. Trump says he also spoke to Netanyahu and that the call "went well." The absence of details is interesting here. In summary: The two sides have not crossed the finishing line yet, but it is now visible and within reach.

My take on the current phase of the negotiations: Iran may show some flexibility on Hormuz, but it cannot and will not compromise on the removal of sanctions and the unfreezing on Iranian money in Western financial gulags. They cannot go back to their people with an agreement that doesn't offer dramatic economic benefits for Iranians. Anything else will not only be a humiliation, but a short selling of Iran's amazing strategic prowess. This will be the issue that, in my opinion, determines the fate of this conflict even more than the enriched uranium or the final status of Hormuz. If the US relents, removes sanctions and releases Iran's money, than Iran has won its biggest war at a very small price, and the option of future hostilities against Iran by the US becomes extremely unlikely: Iran will be a legitimate international player with a vital role in the post-American world order. The real question is: has Iran's military capabilities spooked the US enough to backtrack on decades of batshit-crazy Iran-bashing propaganda, and motivated it enough to defy Zionism's death hold on everything American. As I've said many times during the last couple of years, I never had any doubt Iran was and is going to decisively win this, either militarily or otherwise. However the US loses this, Israel, Zionism and Netanyahu brought the US to the very edge of the abyss; one serious shove and that's it, they are done for. Having built up to this moment with amazing dexterity, Iran is forcing the US to choose between reputational destruction and imperial shrinkage or military and economic destruction, and all the chilling knowns and unknowns that this entails. I think that I have been one of the only readers of the situation who foresaw this outcome. - The US doesn't want and can't afford this war. What's being tested now is the limits of Zionist power over America's decision making. Whatever the US decides to do, eventually, both Zionism and its hegemonic role in this world are fucked beyond repair

Think about it: if Gabbard assessed (and in her position, she is exposed to virtually everything) that the war was wrapping up, she would wait a couple more days, or a couple more weeks, to make her formal announcement. In that scenario, deciding to wait would make a lot of sense, and look like a personal achievement - her living up to her former noninterventionist agenda, and becoming free to take care of her family. By choosing to quit now, she is telling us what's coming

The removal of Tulsi Gabbard is a strong indication that the US is planning more, broader military action in the Persian Gulf

The most dystopian part of AI isn’t the technology itself. It’s the sheer amount of electricity and water being burned so corporations can automate things nobody asked to automate. Entire rivers diverted so an app can generate “funny medieval Breaking Bad images.” So LinkedIn users can produce motivational posts written in the tone of a traumatized flight attendant. We are constructing cathedrals of computation to eliminate the burden of having an original thought. And they keep selling this as progress. Meanwhile the actual physical world decays. Bridges collapse. Cities rot. Public transit looks post-apocalyptic. Young people can’t afford houses. But thank God the machine can generate 9,000 fake podcast clips per second. Civilizations used to build aqueducts and railways. Now we build data centers.
