hetzner is the community favorite. cheap, great performance, EU datacenters. oracle cloud free tier works too if you want $0/mo (ARM instance with 24GB RAM is wild for free). digitalocean has an openclaw-specific guide in the docs
for most people: hetzner CX22 or CX32, ubuntu, follow the linux install guide at docs.openclaw.ai/platforms/linux. takes about 10 minutes to get running

Step 1: The Server (VPS) 💻
OpenClaw needs a server, but you don't have to rent one!
I used the Oracle Cloud Free Tier. They give you a Linux server for absolutely $0, forever.
What you get: ✅ 4 ARM OCPUs ✅ 24 GB RAM
Quick How-To: 1️⃣ In the Oracle Cloud console, click 'Create a VM instance'.
2️⃣ Click 'Change image' and select Ubuntu.
3️⃣ Under 'Change shape', first select Ampere (for the free ARM CPUs).
4️⃣ Then, choose VM.Standard.A1.Flex (Always Free). 5️⃣ Use the arrow to set OCPUs to 4 and RAM to 24 GB (the max free allowance).
6️⃣ Finish the setup, and DO NOT forget to generate and download your SSH keys! 🔑 (You won't be able to access your server without them).
