Billionaires cause poverty, they don’t fix it. The money supply is infinite but so is the possibility of obscene wealth in a system that permits billionaires. They aren’t a benefit, they’re a cancerous symptom of exclusion and extraction, of appropriation and exploitation.
Chris Freiman@cafreiman

Actually, both billionaires and immigrants are good for economy. Anti-billionaire and anti-immigration beliefs tend to result from the mistaken view that there’s a fixed sum of wealth.

I pay $1,138.00 per month for my wife and I with a $6,000. deductible each, $10,000 max out of pocket per year means we pay $23,000 before insurance kicks in. This is not insurance. It's a rip off.
Mark Cuban@mcuban

Ok. Take government completely out of healthcare. No rules. No laws. No Medicare. No Medicaid. Hospitals, insurance companies, can do anything they want. What do they do ? If you were running any of the biggest insurance companies or hospitals, what would you do differently once gov was completely out of healthcare ?

I’m 43 now. I’ve worked 50-70 hours a week my entire adult life. I’ve lost years of time with my children and loved ones just so we could afford to live. This life is not only cruel, but unnecessarily cruel. A better world is possible.

@uneek35 Go dig a deep hole, try to sell it. Maybe then you'll understand why it's not just hard work that matters.

@thebasedbunny I agree, but it started before them. It started in 1913 and it's going on today with all generations.

boomers could pay for college with around 300 hours of minimum wage work. millennials needed thousands. gen z needs even more. and people still act like younger generations are just “bad with money”

The statement “That's ~4-7x more water than all data centers in North America used combined in 2025” is misleading because it does not take into account all the data centers that are planned to be built and in the objects of all the current controversy. Also, there’s more to life than profit. I much rather live in an almond-growing community than next to a data center. Why can’t local community members decide? The democratic process is part of the free market.

This is the lesson of capitalism. You are not smart enough to know whether California should grow almonds or wheats or data centers or anything else. So you allow the price system to function. On everything, including water. Then resources are used efficiently. Disagree and you’ve learned literally nothing from the twentieth century.
Colin McCarthy@US_Stormwatch

Insane stat of the day: California almonds use roughly 3–5.5 million acre-feet of water per year, depending on methodology. That's ~4-7x more water than all data centers in North America used combined in 2025.

Boomers paid $400/month for college. Graduated debt free. Bought a house at 25. Retired at 58. And they want to know why you're not saving more.

@ComicBookBookie @CosmicV That's fine if you're working remote. Most the things people are suggesting are fairly newly available to lots of people. Remote work wasn't a thing for most before covid. Trading stocks wasn't a thing for most people before Robinhood.

Living like Boomers did in their early 20s won't get you what Boomers were able to get in their early 20s. Flat out. You're not getting a down payment for a home by packing a lunch. Min wage in 1968 was equal to 1.8 oz of gold. That's $200/hr in todays $.
Britta | NoSoup4Knowles@nosoup4knowles

You can't complain about boomers having it easier in their early 20s if you aren't willing to live like the boomers did when they were in their early 20s
