We started Jackal five years ago with a simple belief: people should own their data. We went all in on that. We built a lot. Ten apps. Drive. Pin. Vault. Radiant. Name Service. Outposts on Archway and Base. Beacon. Farcaster miniapps. Stargaze plugins. Respawn. Five versions of the chain. A ton of open source tooling. Two versions of S3 tooling. Video streaming. Peer-to-peer file transfer. IPFS integrations. An Optimism demo using Jackal as a data availability layer. We are proud of that work. But we failed to build something people wanted at venture scale. The crypto ecosystem as a whole has consolidated into a few successful use cases. All in fintech. Stablecoins. Prediction markets. Perps. Lending. Etc. The market for everything else has not developed into something large enough to support a real team without relying on token speculation. We believed we could change that with Jackal. We didn’t. From the beginning our goal was to build real products, real usage, and a sustainable revenue stream for the protocol selling storage. We failed to make that happen after five years. Marston and I are moving on. Back into the idea maze. We don’t know what’s next for us. What this means for Jackal is straightforward. - The chain will remain live. - It will run in maintenance mode. - We can’t commit to new protocol development. We still believe in the idea of sovereign data. That has not changed. We are excited about what teams like @SigeaOfficial are doing, and we hope they succeed. We will help where we can on the Jackal side. The chain, the apps, and the tooling are open source. If others want to build, we are happy to help with code reviews and questions. We spent years on this. We pushed hard. We took big swings. We didn’t make it work. That’s on us. Thank you to the community, the team, and partners that supported and worked with us over the years. - @OSINTDunny and @MarstonConnell

Cosmos leadership changed their license of a critical component that will prevent Akash from: - Deploying it in production - Using it commercially in any way - Offering it as a service to third parties Meaning, we cannot use Cosmos without an enterprise license from Cosmos Labs. When we announced that Akash is moving to a shared security layer, we thought we would still keep some Cosmos integration (at least in terms of interoperability). These hostile licensing terms effectively make it impossible for Akash to stay in Cosmos -- one of the worst things that came out of the leadership team that will kill $ATOM.

🚨 AKASH’S HYPOCRISY just got exposed in front of the entire crypto world. 5 years of FREE Cosmos tech. Millions raised. Huge market cap. The day @cosmos says “now it’s PAID”… they run away 😂 $ATOM $AKT 👇 #ATOM #Cosmos #AKT #Hypocrisy #CryptoTwitter

Dear Crypto, It took us 4 years to admit the hard truth: tokens don’t make sense and value enabled by blockchains accrues to equities. We built @artemis in 2022 to bring fundamentals to crypto. We succeeded spectacularly. The best liquid token funds use Artemis. However, most tokens that don’t have strong revenue are down only. Along the way we pioneered stablecoin analytics, app-level revenue tracking, and comparing blockchains across real KPIs. We were jeered as normies for focusing on revenue in crypto and trying to figure out what's real. Turns out the normies were right. Revenue and Free Cash Flow is what matters. Today we announce the launch of Artemis II: The open investment terminal for ANY and EVERY investor who wants to be smart. It's the terminal I wish I had when I left the hedge fund industry in 2022. It's the terminal I wish my Yeh Yeh had when he was investing to try and feed his family of 7, and the terminal @anthonyyim’s Dad wished he had when he was trying to break into Wall Street. The first sector we’re tackling is Digital Finance. It’s for the fintech investor —the ones comparing Robinhood and Hyperliquid, drilling into Circle CPN vs Stripe Tempo on the same screen, comparing Polymarket and Kalshi incentives. Next is AI, then Energy, and beyond. Link below. Reach out if you want to build with us. Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose, Jon & Anthony
