Kat and I had the honor of joining the Veteran Surf Alliance this morning for their annual Memorial Day Paddle Out at Capitola Beach in Santa Cruz. Veterans know the cost of war better than anyone. My dad was a Navy veteran who prosecuted Nazis at Nuremberg — he taught me to stand up against injustice and give back to my community. I'm forever grateful for your service, and for the example you set for all of us.

@PaulDion5 Agree. That’s why I posted it. First post: The state didn’t improve Providence schools. Second post: considered in context, state didn’t make Providence schools worse.

@Costa24601 This evidence of an exogenous shock impacting all school districts, namely the pandemic.

Providence, despite state takeover (which was supposed to help), isn't alone. Rhode Island's five largest school districts are failing more kids. ("Not Meeting Expectations" is the lowest score ranking on RICAS)

@AshleyKalus Might be dangerous in a Dem primary in RI. McKee is more of a political short-pass guy, not a downfield tosser.

@Costa24601 Helena is doing the opposite now. McKee should basically say: I’ve quietly and diligently cleaned up the Gina mess without complaints only to be treated like this

When it comes to the bridge, he needs to directly throw Gina under that train every single time and remind voters that Helena is Gina. They fundraise together. Give each other board seats. Peas in a pod of disaster. If you want more “use the Governor’s office as a stepping stone to escape to DC” drama, you are choosing that same ride again with Helena except this version hates workers and has hurt people. x.com/wpro/status/20…

And BTW, even if you had a rationale for including Social Security payroll taxes but ignoring the benefits they finance, it's still quite progressive.

@FrankLuntz Actually, students graduate high school at about the same rate from rural, towns, suburban, and small cities.

Colleges are making efforts to encourage more students from rural areas to apply. 90% of rural students graduate from high school, more than their peers in cities or suburbs. But only a little more than half go straight to college. nprillinois.org/2026-05-16/col…

Insufficient mention of what actually matters: Did the kids get a better education and will they going forward? Data? More kids in Providence are NOT meeting expectations after takeover than before. #FixTheDamnSchools
