The @MoStateFootball situation with losing Ryan Beard to Coastal Carolina on Dec. 11 is another example of the NCAA's need to change the calendar and make some sort of allowed coaching job-change opening date ... one that is after the completion of the post-season, but before the national early signing date and the opening of the transfer portal. There were 16 kids who signed with the Bears eight days ago thinking they were signing letters of intent with Beard and his staff. Just three days ago, Beard was on radio with us talking about how excited he was about this incoming class and what they would mean to the future of Bears Football. Today ... that whole scenario may be blown to shreds. Meanwhile, the Bears are trying to focus on, and enjoy, their first-ever bowl trip and game coming up a week from tonight. A solution? Maybe ... Move the regular season start up a week in August. Take out the bye weeks. Finish the season in the first week of January by crowning a champion. On the day after, make it the official start of open season on firing and hiring of coaches. Then have a single Signing Day period ... and the transfer portal start a week later. Because this current setup is going to always leave a few programs - like Mo State - going from what was a great situation into a "well, what do we now for a coach ... and team?" when someone else swoops in and takes their coach. The way now isn't good for anyone.

Twenty-two seniors are walking for 🐻 🏈 Senior Day. Juniors Connor Lair and Sage White will also walk, as I’m told they’re not pursuing another year of football. The late Todric McGee, who would have been a senior this fall, will also be honored. JJ O’Neal and Hudson Lillibridge are seniors that will be not be walking on Saturday, as they appear to each be getting an additional year of eligibility after redshirting the season. Tight end Gary Clinton Jr, who would likely get a medical redshirt if he wanted one after a summer knee injury, is also done and will walk with his fellow seniors.
