Metro Vancouver’s got Sewer Detectives 🕵️ There’s more than just poop in the sewer pipes! Our sampling team dives deep into the sewers to look for unusual discharge to make sure the wastewater treatment plants are running smoothly and protect our rivers and ocean.

Another great year for spawners. As we enter December we will see fewer but larger adults making their way in to Cougar Creek and it’s tributary Blake Creek. Fresh fish spotted today and with rain more tomorrow 🤞

This makes me so sad and furious. 😞🤬 I love watching little creeks and waterways, especially after all the recent rain - for any sign of life - especially salmon who have spent years out at sea only to return to - poison?? 💔

Some more salmon spawning video for you all - I find their life cycle fascinating. December 2024 chehalis flats @WatershedWatch_ @harrisontourism I loved watching all the bald eagles feasting (I live in delta so get very depressed when I see them eat rubbish off the landfill)

@pnwkate @WatershedWatch_ Cont.. We are planning on embarking on a door to door campaign with volunteers to educate residents about where their storm drains go.

@pnwkate @WatershedWatch_ Wow that’s super Exciting Kate and well deserved ! Your posts have drawn lots of attention to our streamkeepers group and Cougar Creek. We still have local residents unaware that their street storm drains go directly into the creek and we get fish kills as a result of toxins.

Happy Monday 🐟 Attached is our most recent spawners count. All #Coho except for one confirmed Chum. We have the whole team out Thursday conducting a thorough check including the canyon up to Scott Road. Will revise the totals asap.

Great news at Blake Creek in Delta. Tributary of Cougar Creek. Thanks to many volunteers who helped build spawning habitat at our September workshop we have our first pair of Coho spawners east of the 100’ culverts that are narrow and challenging for fish passage. @BCWFWetlands

@pnwkate Hi Kate. They are all Coho Salmon. They’re native to a lot of urban streams that have elevation and the canyon section holds many pools and spawning gravel. Each year we get more and more showing up in the section above Seaquam and hopefully eventually Scott road

@CougarCrkStream Are these Pink salmon? I went out to Harrison and chehalis in October and saw the Chum returning..I thought I’d missed ours!

And right here in our backyard !
