Has anyone ever figured out why the body measurements/sizing on commercial patterns is always so wildly inaccurate? According to this pattern, I’m between a size 14-16. I usually wear size 10 pants, and size 4-8 tops/dresses.

@whatserscosplay Thing is, even a cheater is going to be given the benefit of the doubt. I'll never disqualify someone because they didn't have good build book photos, but I will certainly think about it if you can't answer core construction questions AND have questionable progress photos.

For folks asking "what can we do" about cosplay contest cheating: this sort of calculated behavior doesn't happen by accident. Cheaters gonna cheat. The solution is making sure your con is bringing in experienced judges who have the wherewithal to sniff out dishonesty.

@YayaHan This person is a unique case because they have such a long history in New England of scamming and stealing - something privately talked about or even reported to contests ahead of time, but that anti-drama aversion keeps it from the public eye and lets cheaters keep on cheating.

@YayaHan I once brought up the possibility of a Contest Coordinators/Judges group to spread information about cheaters like this, and the coordinator I was chatting with brought up the very valid counter-point of: a false positive accusation in a group like that could do a lot of harm.

@PaigeKnovice @NekoYasha09 I didn't see this one in particular, but I did see a similar one. The build book was all visual and filled with an overwhelming amount of progress photos from the commissioner; the contestant also used that progress info to create a pre-judging speech on the construction process

The fact ol girl literally made a fake cosplay build book not once but twice is absolutely mind blowing. Yes im talking about that cosplayer. Some of the craftsmanship judges said the build book was well done and they couldn't tell it was all fabricated.
