Another outstanding operation conducted by our Deputies while patrolling the streets of Albany. Last night, as a result of a traffic stop at the intersection of Washington and South Swan, deputies confiscated 1 Kilo of Cocaine and over 1700 bags of Fentanyl. Excellent work!

In our ongoing efforts to reduce violence and crime in our capital city, another crime suppression detail was conducted last night, resulting in 156 vehicles being stopped for various violations. As a result, two more loaded handguns were removed from the streets, along with narcotics, and several suspended vehicles were removed from the streets, as well as a few parole violators. Deputies assigned to the City of Albany, stopped a vehicle on Eagle St last night for a vehicle violation. As a result, the driver was found in possession of a loaded 9mm with a high capacity magazine in his waistband. Subsequently, the passenger was also found with a loaded 9mm in his waistband, which was discovered to be stolen from Vermont. Both subjects were lodged at the jail. With the weather changing, you will see an increased presence of deputies working diligently to reduce violence.

I had the pleasure of administering the oath of office to 19 Deputy Sheriff recruits earlier today. The recruits will commence 28 weeks of training at the Sheriffs Public Safety Institute on Monday morning (Feb 17). Our 19 recruits will be joined by 10 additional recruits from local police and Sheriffs offices. I wish them good luck and safety. I extend my gratitude to these individuals for their commitment to serving and protecting their community.

Truly humbled this week to receive the prestigious “Grover Cleveland” award, the highest honor bestowed upon a NY Sheriff. Grover Cleveland's remarkable legacy as the first president to serve two non-consecutive terms and as a NY Sheriff inspires me deeply. Being one of America's Sheriffs is an extraordinary privilege that I cherish and take very seriously. PSA - PSA - Our office has received several inquiries regarding the many social media posts advising of a large scale training exercise taking place in the capital district during the week of January 26-31. This is a federal exercise comprised of federal assets with limited state or local resources. The exercise will take place at several restricted locations mostly the Stratton Air Base in Schenectady County. There should be no interruptions to our day to day activities. The press release is just to advise the public so if you see an increase in Federal DOD or DHS vehicles that it’s just training exercise and there is no need to be concerned. If you have you can call the Sheriffs Office.

The Deputy exam has been scheduled for May 3, 2025. Applications must be submitted by April 2, 2025. Please share this information. Additionally, if you know anyone interested in the position, have them contact us to arrange a tour or ride-along.

Another loaded handgun has been removed from our Capital City streets. As a result of a vehicle stop and a larger detail with NYSDMV, a subject was stopped and became assaultive towards a Deputy. Consequently, the individual was arrested and charged with multiple offenses. A subsequent search revealed a loaded 9mm S&W. Several other subjects were also arrested due to fictitious plates, suspended registration, or lack of a license. Great job to my staff and keep up the pressure to make Albany safe!

Another illicit firearm has been removed from Albany's streets. Deputies seized this one following a vehicle stop yesterday, capping off a week of confiscating narcotics. No letting up!

As you can see, the snow is falling and although we don’t expect this to be a “Blockbuster” storm, it is making roads slippery. Roads can go from wet to snow covered in seconds based on elevation. So leave a little early, drive a little slower and enjoy your day with Family.

Another great job by your Deputies! After an early morning wake up call for an Albany resident and search of his home deputies seized 1.25 POUNDS OF COCAINE AND 1/2 half POUND OF FENTANYL. In addition around 5600 bags for packaging. Happy Thanksgiving week. I’m sure the Deputies just prevented quite a few overdoses. 🙏

Also as a result of a street encounter deputies arrested a C/O Albany resident for possessing over 100 bags of cocaine and fentanyl. Your Deputies are working hard!

The team was busy this weekend for the Phish concert. Seized 274 grams psilocybin- 381 grams ketamine- 103 grams of cocaine - 173 Xanax - 1380 hits of LSD and 58 MDMA. They worked hard to keep the city safe with 40k fans coming and going. No issues other than a couple uses of Narcan to keep a few fans from overdosing. Great work!!!

Those familiar with my organization and me are well aware of our dedication to supporting individuals struggling with addiction. Needless to say you meet people in my position that are just basics talkers. Talk it but can’t or won’t walk it. Or they just spout off bullsh$t. This week I had a chance to meet a guy who is sincere and passionate about his fight with addiction and how he was saved from a life of drugs and how there is hope! This guy made a stop in Albany and put on one hell of a show. We had chance to meet and chat and what an incredible person to give people hope! The dragon can be beat! @JellyRoll615
