Security Deployed as Joint Committee Backs Sovereignty Bill Amendments, Some Opposition MPs in Support Majority Members of Parliament on the joint committees of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and Defence and Internal Affairs have agreed to support the Protection of Sovereignty Bill, 2026, adopting revisions proposed by the Attorney General, according to impeccable sources in the Committee. The legislators have been meeting at Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo since Friday to compile their report. Notably, the position has been backed some opposition MPs, including a member from the FDC and another from UPC (names are withheld). However, the deliberations have been marked by tension, with chaos and a brief scuffle reportedly breaking out after Committee Chair reportedly pushed for adoption of the Attorney General’s amended draft without a thorough clause-by-clause review of stakeholder's submissions.
