@RutgersAltRoute A5: As a special education teacher, I try to focus on modifying the assessments to each students needs even if it means creating several versions of the assessment. (1/1)

This morning's 5th and final Q is on assessment #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset “You can enhance or destroy students’ desire to succeed in school more quickly and permanently through your use of assessment than with any other tool you have at your disposal.” – Dr. Rick Stiggins

@RutgersAltRoute Feedback is one of the teaching areas where it's interesting/very helpful to see how others do it. Looking forward to seeing the strategies from different content areas - sentence stems, formats for delivering feedback, schedule of feedback #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A4: On the other hand, if I notice a student shuts down, I provide them with guidance in order to get them started. I usually do this by asking questions and making connections to previous lessons. #TeacherEd

@RutgersAltRoute A4: As a special education math teacher, one of the things I start my lessons with is a solve and share which is meant to be a productive struggle. When I see my students engage in math talk and actually put effort, I praise them for working through the struggle.

@RutgersAltRoute A3: I feel that by being transparent with my students and sharing with them that when I was their age I made mistakes and I eventually learned from them and grew as a person can ignite a sense of motivation amongst students and encourage them to reframe their own thinking.

Framing, or how teachers introduce new concepts and tasks to students, is the focus of Q3. Framing can steer students to a fixed or growth mindset. It helps students feel free to be a work in progress as they learn. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

I have also found that being transparent with my resource students has helped them grow as learners. When I look back to the beginning of the year, I see great differences in my students attitudes about learning and school in general. #GrowthMindset #TeacherEd

@RutgersAltRoute Building positive relationships are essential to creating a productive classroom environment, but I also realized that students need to be able to relate to their teachers. I am transparent with my students and share personal experiences where my mistakes did not define me.

@RutgersAltRoute A2: As a teacher, I can create an encouraging classroom, embrace mistakes as a learning experience, and encourage the use of “yet”. Having a community for my students and giving them the tools they need to succeed can foster a positive mindset. #TeacherED #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute A2: As a special education teacher, a lot of the students I work with started off the school year with a fixed mindset about school. The way I went around this is by incorporating their own interests into what I was teaching and providing positive feedback. #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute As a third-grade teacher, mindset presents both challenges and opportunities in student learning. A fixed mindset can hinder students' willingness to take risks and learn from mistakes, fostering a fear of failure and negative self-talk. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset

@RutgersAltRoute Also it is important that we teach students that even if they can’t do something know, it doesn’t mean they won’t ever be able to do it. That’s where the power of the word “yet” comes in. Teaching students to reframe their thinking can be beneficial in the long run. #TeacherEd

@RutgersAltRoute A1: A student’s mindset determines whether they will rise to the challenges that come with being a student or shut down. As educators, we can cultivate an environment where even students with fixed mindsets can prosper and develop growth mindsets. #TeacherEd #Growthmindset

Teachers play a role in helping students learn and practice self-awareness skills and communicate their understanding. For Q4 think about what you’ve done or ideas you’d like to implement to help students be self-advocates, agents of their own success #TeacherEd #SpecialEd

@RutgersAltRoute For assessments in math I let my students use manipulatives and show different strategies to solve so they can get their answers. Then I have them try the strategy we are learning so they experience both.

@RutgersAltRoute A1 One of my bigger challenges creating an inclusive environment has been providing fidgets to help with attention but then them becoming distractions. My biggest challenge is keeping focus with students with some learning disabilities. #TeacherEd #SpecialEd
