Hugo Palmer launches attack on Chester prize-money after new bonus is announced: 🗣️ "One of the races is a handicap 51-70 for £15,000 and that's not too bad. The other one is a 66-85, so to win £7,000 with an 85-rated horse is an absolute disgrace on a Saturday in the middle of the summer. An extra £700? It should be an extra £17,000. It's disgraceful they are proposing to run those two races for the same prize-money and they should hang their heads in shame. On the same card they’ve got a 0-95 – we’re talking Royal Ascot horses – running for £30,000 with £15,000 first prize. It’s absolutely appalling when you think of how big the crowd will be. Rather than adding poxy bonuses they should put on some proper prize-money. They’re making enormous profits, the crowds are vast and their media rights are through the roof and if they want runners they should put on proper prize-money. It’s the week before Glorious Goodwood and I’ve got horses I could run in the race, but they’ll go to Goodwood where they can run for £100,000."
