Alyssa Bustamante’s grandmother reacts to hearing that her granddaughter slit 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten’s throat. In October 2009, Bustamante enticed Olten into the woods where he proceeded to strangle and stab her to death. Her motives for the murder were purely driven by homicidal thoughts and curiosity to experience the act of killing someone. She was subsequently charged and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action. She received a life sentence in prison with the opportunity for conditional release in 2024 for the second-degree murder charge. However, owing to her additional conviction for armed criminal action, even if she is granted conditional release in 2024, she will serve a consecutive sentence of 30 years in prison. Consequently, her earliest potential release date is in 2054, when she will be 60 years old.
