Also, the @BLS_gov CES MTBI file looks like it has monthly average data rather than actual expenditures in the month for gasoline but motor oil looks like assigned to actual month? Is this the right file to use if we really want to know how people change spending in face of inflation? 2/2

data nerds: The @BLS_gov no longer publishes total qrtly gasoline expenditures in the CES FMLI PUMD. They gave me the UCC codes to aggregate it myself. BUT I cannot get my MTBI aggregates to match their FMLI values from prior years. Anyone have STATA code for doing this sort of thing? 1/2

@BLS_gov and #economist friends, why are gasoline expenditures no longer in the Consumer Expenditure Survey interview files? Is there an alternative source within the CES? They were in the 1Q23 fmli file but are missing thereafter.

There are some vocal activists suggesting that now that home sellers can no longer offer to pay buyer agent commissions through the MLS (they still can pay them as part of the negotiated terms) all that needs to happen is for mortgage lenders to "simply allow" these fees to be financed into the buyer's mortgage. In this article I explain why this is neither simple nor ideal.

My fellow ADHDers
I know there are things in your apartment, home, etc, that need to be thrown away.
Not stuff that you need to decide whether to throw away, but things you have zero issues throwing away but have had difficulty getting yourself to initiate doing it.
Please do me a favor, look around, and throw away three things. That’s it, just three things. Cans, bottles, empty Amazon boxes, you know the list.
Please do it and report back to me.
