If cricket media truly wants to contribute something meaningful to India's ODI setup, it needs to stop obsessing over Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and the top three. India's top order is not the problem. The bigger concern is the middle order, lower middle order, and the bowling attack. These are the areas that will decide India's success in major tournaments. Yet most debates revolve around who should open, who should bat at No. 3, and whether Rohit or Virat should be in the XI. Meanwhile, India's middle order continues to be unsettled, selections keep changing, and the balance of the bowling unit remains a question mark. The spotlight is on the wrong place. The top three will take care of themselves. The real conversation should be about building a reliable middle order and a bowling attack capable of winning tournaments.

100%!!! If cricket media genuinely wants to be meaningful to Team India, we should stop obsessing over Rohit and Kohli or debates around the opening/top three. India’s real concerns are the middle order, lower middle order, and bowling balance. The top three is not the issue. Constantly discussing the same star names only distracts from the areas that could actually decide India’s tournament. The conversation should shift from “Who opens?” to “Who stabilizes the middle overs, finishes the innings, and takes wickets when it matters?”

TBH, both Shreyas and KL are batting one order down. It should be only two of KL, Ishan, and Shreyas to bat at 4 and 5. Anything lower than that, their purpose becomes meaningless. If you are not getting to play Hardik, one can try players like Rajat Patidar, who can hit from ball one and do the finisher's role.

Meanwhile, in ODI World Cups since 2003: 🏆 Australia: 4 titles 🏆 India: 1 title 🏆 England: 1 title Football has produced more champions (6) even with two to three leagues dominating the sport. Cricket, on the other hand, is reducing opportunities by cutting the 2027 ODI World Cup from 14 teams to 12. If we want more competitive World Cups and more genuine contenders, the game needs more teams to have more game time, not fewer. Do you think the ICC is helping or hurting the future of ODI cricket?

Spain have become the first nation to win multiple FIFA World Cups in the 21st century. Across the seven World Cups held since 2002, six different nations have lifted the trophy, with Spain now becoming the first team to win it twice. Now compare that with the ODI World Cup. Only three teams have won the title in the same period: • Australia: 4 • India: 1 • England: 1 That tells you something about the competitive balance of the two sports. Cricket already has a much smaller pool of elite nations than football. Yet instead of expanding opportunities, the ICC has reduced the 2027 ODI World Cup from 14 teams to just 12. If the game wants more genuine contenders in the future, the answer isn't fewer teams. It's broader participation and greater investment in emerging cricket nations.

Everyone is busy debating Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and India's opening combination. But that's not where India's biggest problem lies. The real concern is the middle order. There is no settled combination, roles keep changing, and selection has turned into a game of musical chairs. A team cannot build consistency when the players themselves don't know where they'll bat from one match to the next. If this continues, India's campaign won't be derailed by the top order. It will be undone by the instability in the middle and lower middle order.

Most batters look settled first, and then they go on to score a hundred. Rohit Sharma is different. He truly looks settled only after he reaches his hundred. That's when his best batting begins. Once he gets there, the pressure disappears, the strokeplay becomes effortless, and bowlers run out of answers. That's one of the biggest reasons he has so many 150+ scores and multiple ODI double hundreds. When Rohit gets to three figures, history suggests he's far from done.

Hate the 2027 ODI World Cup format. Hate it. Two teams will basically be told to get lost despite getting through the Qualifier to actually travel to Southern Africa for the WC. And, of course, the format is designed for at least two India-Pakistan matches. Disappointing.

Can't rely on Dube's One six per over and imaginge Axar and Harshit walking in at 6 and 7. And this is from a country where 3 to 4 teams can be made with solid finishers in each squad.

I trust that what Shreyas Iyer said in the post match presentation was his way of taking the pressure off Vaibhav. Every youngster dreams of an international debut, but with that comes enormous expectations. Sometimes, protecting a young player from the noise is just as important as backing his talent. The management sees him every day. If they believe waiting a little longer is the right call, I'm willing to trust that judgment. His time will come.

Calling Shreyas Iyer a jealous captain for not debuting Vaibhav makes no sense. The same people demanding his debut today will be the first ones to question his place if he has a couple of poor games. A young player doesn't just need talent, he needs the right environment and the right timing. If the management didn't rate him, he wouldn't even be in the squad. Sometimes, the best thing you can do for a youngster is let him absorb the international setup before throwing him into the deep end. Trust that the people who work with him every day know when he's ready.
