HONG KONG, CHINA – An investigation has uncovered an international network recruiting Canadians, including teenagers, to smuggle cocaine into Hong Kong. Authorities say four Canadians arriving on separate flights were arrested at Hong Kong International Airport over a four-month period after nearly 100 kilograms of cocaine was discovered in their luggage. One case involved Jade, a 19-year-old from Cambridge, who was arrested in September 2025 after customs officers found 25 kilograms of cocaine in her checked suitcase. She told investigators she believed she had been hired for a legitimate international courier job. Reports indicate the four arrested Canadians do not know each other but described a similar recruitment pattern and the same alleged organizer using the online name “Dot.” Authorities believe the network is recruiting young people in the Kitchener‑Waterloo Region through social media. Investigators with Waterloo Regional Police Service say they are examining cases of online recruitment for international drug trafficking and warn that job offers promising travel or courier work may be part of criminal schemes. Police urge Canadians to be cautious about job offers found on social media that appear to promise easy money or international travel.
