A great deal of effort went into the Tuscaloosa News' dive into 1925 Alabama national championship team for its 100-year anniversary. A 15-byline package, most of it from @_ColinGay and @emilee_smarr, that should have its own home on this app, so here it is. 1) The Tournament of Roses grandstand collapse that killed 11, injured hundreds tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/c… 2) Meet the trio from the 1925 team that went on to be Green Bay Packers teammates tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/c… 3) Profiles of 11 starters, including the terrible Mr. Wu tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/c… 4) Profiles of 15 backups on the '25 team, and the key roles they played or went on to play. tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/c… 5) Game-by-game details on a 9-0 regular season that featured eight shutouts tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/c… 6) Tuscaloosa then and now, after 100 years tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/c… 7) Terrific piece from Emilee on Johnny Mack Brown's Hollywood career tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/c… 8) Feature on heart-and-soul leader Pooley Hubert, and why teammates called him 'Papa' tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/c… 9) Column on the championship shadow coach Wallace Wade cast on the program long after he was gone. tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/c… 10) Colin with a banger on a century-old heirloom from the '25 title that resides in Vernon, Ala. tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/c… 11) The lie intended to motivate the 1925 Alabama team to Rose Bowl victory tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/c… 12) How Birmingham Southern scored the only TD Alabama allowed the entire 1925 regular season tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/c… 13) Photo gallery of the 1925 Alabama football team tuscaloosanews.com/picture-galler… 14) Video: The inside story of Alabama's 1925 national championship tuscaloosanews.com/videos/sports/… 15) Video: The Bryant Museum's Brad Greens solves 100-year-old mystery tuscaloosanews.com/videos/sports/…

25 years ago today, former Alabama DB @Teaguefootball took exception to 49ers WR Terrell Owens running to the Dallas Cowboys' midfield star logo to celebrate a touchdown. Owens got the message.

Good news for fans in this way: any school that dumped its spring game on the grounds that they’re a job fair for the spring portal has to bring it back now, right?
Ross Dellenger@RossDellenger

The NCAA FB Oversight Committee voted today to support a single transfer portal in January, sources tell @YahooSports, ushering in a significant change. The Administrative Committee still needs to formally adopt the change later. The 10-day window is expected to open Jan. 2.

In memory of our great friend Mike Parker, John Copeland and I have launched Parker Covers Alabama, a non-profit 501(c)(3) supporting wheelchaired Alabama residents. Mike suffered from quadriplegia and was in a wheelchair for more than 20 years before passing away at 42. His determination and spirit led him to be the founder of Crimson Cover TV, a weekly program on @wvua23 covering Alabama athletics, that John and I co-hosted with him for 15 years. John and I continue to air the show, and will have more details on Parker Covers Alabama when this week's show airs Friday night. The PCA website is parkercoversalabama.com - thanks for any support.

Mike Parker, a good friend for 17 years who founded and inspired @Crimson_Cover on @WVUA23, passed away this week. He was 42, and spent about half of those years in a wheelchair after a terrible diving accident on July 4, 2004. I met him four years later through @travisreier. Mike was a force of nature in making Crimson Cover a reality. In 2008, he convinced me to launch it with him on local radio. By 2009, he added John Copeland as our third co-host. By 2010, he'd convinced WVUA to air a pilot episode of Crimson Cover on TV. By 2011, he'd secured our first title sponsor. He was determined and tough and didn't take no's for answers. He often struggled to make it to the show, but always refused, for as long as he could, to take a show off. In the absence of being able to do so much that able-bodied people take for granted, Mike made Crimson Cover all the more important in his life. Now, after 15 years and roughly 750 episodes, Crimson Cover is still going strong and, because Mike would want it this way, it will continue to be as strong as we can make it without him. But it won't ever be the same without the biggest Alabama fan I've ever known. Last night, Copeland and I recorded a show that paid tribute to Mike, in loving memory. We honored Mike from beginning to end, but because he would've demanded it, we squeezed in a little Alabama sports talk, too. It airs tonight at 6:30 pm CT. We love you, Mike.

Did a pretty deep dive (eight games) on Isaiah Horton’s 2024 season at Miami with the All-22 angle. What is Alabama getting? Here’s what I saw:

Saturday against Georgia, Ryan Williams looked like the closest thing to David Palmer I’ve seen at Alabama in the 31 years since the Deuce left UA for the NFL. Are we watching the emergence of David Palmer 2.0? I think we could be. Hear me out. 👇 tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/c…

Got to attend the premiere screening of Do Right: The Stallings Standard, a new documentary film on former Alabama coach Gene Stallings, last Thursday at the Bama Theatre. It’s a helluva doc that goes much deeper than football, and the 89-year-old coach was there to see it for the first time. First movie review column I’ve written in 30 yrs in the biz 👇 tuscaloosanews.com/story/sports/c…
