Reliance Jio sold a man a SIM card for international travel. Charged him ₹1,101 for it. The SIM never activated. Rajeev Kumar Rakhra was abroad — no calls, no family, no financial transactions. For an entire month. Not because of anything he did. Because Jio simply failed to activate the card. He filed a consumer complaint on return. The District Commission gave him just ₹5,000. He appealed. The Delhi State Consumer Commission said the compensation was inadequate. It was enhanced — the Commission held that being stranded abroad without connectivity is not a minor inconvenience. Jio was ordered to refund with interest and pay enhanced compensation. One SIM. One month of isolation. One appeal. Save this — if your telecom fails you abroad, that's not just bad luck. It's a consumer rights violation.
