We can’t beat Anthropic at their own game. We need to start thinking about training models through completely new systems; ones that out-perform and move faster. Affine (below) is a solution: a lab that’s just a market mechanism framing the problem “you have compute, you have engineers, how do you get SOTA” Think of it like a global incentivized auto research which pays engineers/agents who lower the loss of a model against RL environments. In other-words, it’s an AI lab but you get paid for contributing to the run by taking the current top model and training it further. The beauty is that we let everything else stay mutable: how you copy, how you train, how you work, where you work, your compute procurement and your algorithms. Just push us. Turns out that’s a very hard game to line up especially when you exist in a global permissionless system which includes a lot of people that speak Korean … But we did it, we trained our first model family, together, that out performed our base, first one in history and just the beginning. Exploits are what teach a system its weak spots. The quicker you find them the faster you learn. The outcome of this eventful evening is that Bittensor will invent lock-based subnet ownership -- specifically: ownership of a subnet determined by a team's long term economic commitment to the project. This will mean: 1) investors see long in advance if an owner has unlocked their tokens, 2) be able to reprice the subnet before the owner and 3) liquidly direct their own conviction to another team, or agent, to manage the system. We are indeed currently in the process of large changes to EF leadership structure, which has been ongoing for close to a year. Some of this has already been executed on and made public, and some is still in progress. What we're trying to achieve is primarily the following goals: * Improve level of technical expertise within EF leadership * Improve two-way communications and ties between EF leadership and the ecosystem actors, old and new, that it is our role to support: users (individual and institutional), app devs, wallets, L2s * Bring in fresh talent, improve execution ability and speed * Become more actively supportive of app builders, and make sure important values and inalienable rights (esp privacy, open source, censorship resistance) are a reality for users including at the app layer * Continue to increase our use of decentralized and privacy tech and the Ethereum chain, including for payments and treasury management Explicit *non-goals* are: * Execute some kind of ideological / vibez pivot from feminized wef soyboy mentality to bronze age mindset * Start aggressively lobbying regulators and powerful political figures (esp in USA, but really anywhere, especially large powerful countries), and risking compromising Ethereum's position as a global neutral platform * Become an arena for vested interests * Become a highly centralized org, or even more of a "main character" within Ethereum These things aren't what EF does and this isn't going to change. People seeking a different vision are welcome to start their own orgs.
