One of the saddest things to see is the phenomenon of converts learning Islam from half-baked modern Muslims, and thereby mistaking for Islam a bunch of degraded, inhumane (not to say imbecilic) local customs from wherever that half-baked Muslim happens to come from ... and thereby failing to flourish in their Islam (not to mention turning their non-Muslim relatives off Islam for good).
