Sony is facing heavy allegations that they deployed a social media bot army to manipulate public opinion and defend their controversial decision to kill new PlayStation discs by 2028. The controversy gained massive traction after tech insider and YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead published an analysis of social media activity surrounding the announcement. With the gaming community overwhelmingly protesting the end of physical media, Moore’s Law Is Dead noted that finding genuine accounts defending the decision was incredibly difficult. When he did find accounts aggressively pushing for a digital-only future, further inspection revealed suspicious, automated patterns: • Artificial Activity Spikes: Long-dormant accounts suddenly became highly active right after Sony's announcement. • Unnatural Phrasing: The posts used unusually formal, business-like language to praise anti-consumer practices. • AI Generative Profiles: Many of these "cheerleader" accounts utilized AI-generated profile pictures. • Interlinking Networks: These accounts heavily promoted and interacted with one another, after which several associated accounts were completely deleted.

A new report claims PlayStation could be using social media bots to defend its decision to stop making physical game discs. According to Moore’s Law Is Dead, AI was used to analyze accounts posting in support of PlayStation’s digital-only future. The report says many of those accounts looked suspicious, with recent creation dates, AI-generated profile pictures, and very similar posting patterns.

Just bought a rare physical copy of Deadpool(PS4). You can't buy this game digitally at all anymore since it's been delisted everywhere due to licensing issues. This is why physical media and media preservation matters, even if you buy only digital you should fight for physical.
