After an intense engineering journey, we're about to ship a kernel whose architecture is defined by radical principles: RAM-only, ephemeral execution (ZeroState), cryptographically-enforced boundaries and post-quantum resilience at every layer. Every major src/ subsystem is now shipping with real, production-grade logic. The vault system is a RAM-only fortress, no secrets ever touch persistent storage. Master keys, PQClean-wrapped credentials and ephemeral tokens live only in memory with hardware entropy, zeroization and quantum key rotation guaranteed. Sealing, backup, policy and audit are modular, but all vault operations are designed for ZeroState compliance: the moment you power down, there’s nothing left to steal. Our memory manager brings secure slab and buddy allocation, region introspection for leak detection, and stack/heap randomization. No buffer or credential can persist past its lifecycle every free is a zero-wipe, every mapping is ephemeral and every process region is scanned for privacy and integrity violations. Interrupts are handled with programmable vector tables, CET/CFI enforcement and hardware-aware critical sections. Each ISR is logged, timestamped and audited; every transition is protected by quantum identity and RAM-only stack canaries. IPC channels are zero-copy, async, and capability-enforced. Messages are quantum-authenticated and never written to disk. Shared memory, pipes, and event signals are built for ZeroState when the kernel sleeps or reboots, all communication disappears. Our runtime features multicore, NUMA-aware scheduling, quantum identity integration and fair queueing all with ephemeral context and policy-driven isolation. Process metadata, credentials, and stack frames exist only in RAM, destroyed on exit. Storage? Even our block and object storage subsystems treat data as ephemeral by default. Journaling, hash-tree integrity, and vault-backed sealing are available, but the OS never writes secrets or keys to disk without explicit, policy-driven hardware sealing. Syscalls are table-driven, stack-canary and quantum-identity protected. Every transition from user to kernel is validated, zeroed, and audited in-memory—no syscall trace survives a reboot. Security is what sets NØNOS apart. We deploy Kyber, Dilithium, Sphincs+, and friends at every boundary, using PQClean and hardware-backed entropy sources. The Zero-Knowledge Identity System (ZKIDS) authenticates every process with non-exportable, RAM-only credentials. Trusted boot, rootkit scanning, leak detection, privacy enforcement, and AI-powered quantum threat analysis happen entirely in volatile state, no logs, tokens, or metadata ever persist unless policy explicitly allows it. The result: an OS that cannot be forensically recovered, where no attacker can extract credentials, keys, or secrets post-shutdown.
