Vandaliziranje hrvatskih natpisa u Austriji je neprihvatljivo i mora se jasno osuditi. Hrvatska zajednica tamo ima pravo na poštovanje svoje povijesti i kulture. Istovremeno, pitanje dvojezičnih natpisa otvara širu raspravu o tome kako treba izgledati javni prostor nacionalnih država. Moj stav je da stabilne nacionalne države trebaju imati jedinstven javni jezik i jedinstven državni okvir u službenoj komunikaciji države. Manjinski kulturni identiteti i privatna uporaba jezika mogu postojati, ali službeni javni prostor države mora biti jasan i zajednički svima. Zato smatram da model službenih dvojezičnih tablica dugoročno ne doprinosi koheziji društva, ni u Hrvatskoj ni drugdje.

Trebamo uvesti novo pravilo. Ako je osoba odsutna iz domovine duže od 8 godina, a u istom periodu nije provela najmanje 12 mjeseci uzastopno u Hrvatskoj, više ne polaže pravo na hrvatsko državljanstvo. Isto vrijedi ako ta osoba ne namjerava u periodu od 8 godina živjeti ovdje trajno.
