Most answers are wrong here. The main reason is that you cant compare it that way. Oil price is inelastic. An price increase does not lower demand in the same way. So the supply drops by 20%, but not the demand. So every buyer that is left is bidding more because the economy runs on oil....

So if only 20% of the worlds Oil supply passes through the Strait of Hormuz Why did the price go up more than 20%?
