Crystal Bay School

On June 12, Blair, Luc, Ken, and Tammy coached Crystal Bay athletes at the Terry Fox Recreation Facility participating in ball throw, long jump, and 50 m in the DDP / Region 1 Divisional Meet. While the forecast called for rain, it held off and they had a great day.

Let’s Play Ball! ⚾️ We have had the opportunity to bring baseball to Crystal Bay thanks to our partnership with @JaysCare. The students have loved learning and strengthening our baseball skills and having fun! Thank you Jays Care!

This primary student has worked hard all winter and is now biking independently! We made the most of the beautiful weather last week and took our bikes outside to the safety village. @ocdsb #SpecialEd

The butterfly is a symbol to represent the diversity, unique qualities, and transitions students with autism experience. At Crystal Bay, students have created individual artwork butterflies in recognition and celebration of #WorldAutismAwarenesAndAcceptanceMonth. @OCDSB

Crystal Bay is closed today due to the power outage.

Due to safety concerns relating to power outages throughout the city of Ottawa all transportation services on vans, yellow buses and wheelchair buses will be cancelled today. Some schools have no power  Please refer to your school board website to determine if your school is open

Due to anticipated freezing rain all day, all school buses & school vans are cancelled for today Wednesday April 5, 2023. Schools are open, however parents/guardians are responsible for transportation of students attending open schools at the end of the day.

Zoom, zoom, zoom we’re going to the moon. This month in one primary class we are learning all about Space! We are reading dbooks about astronauts, counting and measuring planets, creating beautiful art work and even getting messy with some sensory painting of the sun and moon.

CB had the perfect weather day for our Winter Carnival this past Thursday. Students and staff enjoyed snowshoeing, snowperson building, sleds, snow painting, ball toss, hula hoop games, snow bowling and especially fresh baked beaver tails, maple taffy and hot chocolate! #OCDSB

The students had fun making fizzy rainbows in sensory exploration today 🌈

Colours, Colours Everywhere! We are exploring colours this month: today we did some sensory play outside with food colouring and snow and we were matching hearts after our literacy circle and reading a book about seeing all sorts of colours!

This week our classes had the opportunity to visit the Museum of Science and Technology. Enjoy of sneak peek of two of our primary classes loving all of the interactive exhibits!

We had the best time this past week! Bubble Birthdays came in to the school for an amazing bubble show for all the students. He made giant bubbles, hundreds of small bubbles, bubbles we could hold in the palm of our hands and even bubbles we could stand in! We ❤️ bubbles!

Today in art we explored our theme of winter and cold. The students used water colour paints in cool colours and salt to make beautiful paintings. Then we used snow and bleeding tissue paper to make snow prints.

The last few days of school for 2022 included holiday and winter centres: decorating the tree, melting trees, decorating cookies and making a special treat for our students families and loved ones. We hope you all have a safe and restful winter break. See you all in 2023!

Our swimming program supports many IEP goals in our primary class: physiotherapy and gross motor, self care & dressing skills, increasing independence and confidence in the water and having fun with friends! This is always a highlight of our week! Check out these smiles!!

This week has been a balance of working hard (getting our snack program ready each morning for all the classes) and taking some time for a little seasonal fun!
