@JustinKlekota @jikamens @qwrrty This is an inaccurate description of the situation, in my opinion. It's not that the language was "incomplete." Requiring/expecting people to disclose what sex a doctor pronounced them to be at birth is a *very* bad way to attempt to attract more gender diversity in leadership.

@jikamens @qwrrty We explicitly included language protecting people who identify as intersex, transitioning, or an assigned sex and we continued the practice that at least one male and female serve in leadership. The language wasn’t complete so we are working to expand it.

As a member of the LBGTQIA+ community, I am committed to gender diversity & diversity in all its forms. I look forward to working with the ward committee to adopt the most inclusive language possible & apologize if earlier bylaw rough drafts fell short of our goal of inclusivity

Hi, I’m a sociology grad student focusing on domestic violence. Here’s why I believe Amber Heard and why I disagree with so much of this trial. 🧵 thread

I don’t talk about this enough so here goes. When you push against a system and it is an unjust system, you must prepare yourself mentally for the isolation and resistance that comes with that. 1/

There’s more in the piece. I’ve tried to address all the standard tropes--“but we didn’t make accommodations before”; “we can’t shut down society for a small fraction”—and why they’re problematic. That’s all in here. 13/ theatlantic.com/health/archive…

i once asked a hiring manager "how would you respond if one of your developer advocates were harassed on the job because they are a minority" & the answer was so illuminating i withdrew my application with said company. it was 30 seconds of silence followed by nervous laughter.

Give yourself full permission to interview your future managers back. When they ask "Do you have any questions for me," take the opportunity to expose what your next 1+ years under this person might be like. Here are 5 questions I have or wished I'd asked of my future managers:

I had a white friend. I liked him and I think he liked me, too. But then Pearl Harbor happened and whites became hostile and unpleasant. I am sure we didn’t do anything but they sent us to camps anyway. And now they don’t want to teach about this because it make kids feel bad.

Outstanding thread on the close link between efforts to maintain racial segregation and the invention of zoning, present near the creation of zoning among planners circa 1918. (Robert Whitten is the personification of this link btw).

1918: The city planners gather in St. Louis for the first time after the landmark Supreme Court Buchanan decision ending explicit enforcement of racial segregation of housing and public areas. babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=wu.8…

The power structure literally is a pyramid (and a pyramid scheme) and when you get to the tippy top it’s ten white male billionaires making decisions based on their personal financial interests that impact the fate of the Earth and all its inhabitants. Racial capitalism.

If you are still claiming police needed to kill a child I don't have anything to say to you. Because you're clearly okay with the state murdering kids & that's so far down the road to hell there's no turning back. We can't agree to disagree, we can't discuss it. You have to go.
