Hello, I’m Dieter. I’ve spent 15 years in retail IT. I have 3 kids and 47 failed integrations. My blood type is CSV. Currently investigating why “temporary workaround 2017” is still in production. Follow me for enterprise trauma, and light Excel evangelism.

Had interview with American consultant yesterday Project manager from Chicago. Said she needed our procurement decision by next Friday "My contract expires Monday and I haven't found anything else yet" I explained our vendor selection process requires 11-week minimum evaluation period "But you've already been using my services for 4 months through the temp agency" I noted her misunderstanding of permanent vendor classification versus temporary contractor status She went quiet. Then mentioned her daughter's asthma medication costs €800 monthly and she couldn't afford COBRA "Is there any way to expedite this? I've been commuting 3 hours daily for this project" I suggested she speak with our HR business partner about contractor extension policies I reported her unprofessional pressure tactics to the steering committee They agreed that dependency on single-source income indicated poor financial planning She stopped coming to the office after Friday I heard through facilities that she moved back to Chicago I noted this in the vendor evaluation file as evidence of geographic stability concerns German businesses require partners who understand long-term commitment

Software licensing consultant visited yesterday Young woman from Munich. Said she was pregnant and working until delivery to build up savings "We need the Oracle upgrade signed this month" she explained I told her our software licensing committee meets quarterly. Next session is in April She went pale "I am due in February. This contract covers my maternity leave" I explained that pregnancy timelines do not affect our procurement schedule. The committee requires 90 days minimum for any licensing decision "Is there any way to expedite this? Even just to get it to committee review?" I offered her our emergency request form. 47 pages. Requires CFO signature and three department heads She stared at the document "This asks for a business continuity impact assessment" Standard procedure "But sir it is just renewing existing Oracle licenses" I explained that all license renewals require the same scrutiny as new purchases. German procurement does not distinguish between renewal and acquisition She asked if I could make an exception I noted her request in the vendor file under "inappropriate pressure tactics" She was let go during her maternity leave for missing quota I later heard she had complications during delivery. Stress-related I sent her a LinkedIn connection request. Germans maintain professional relationships regardless of vendor outcomes

Had freelancer meeting yesterday British graphic designer. Working on our Q4 marketing materials for 6 weeks. Asked about invoice payment "When can I expect payment?" she asked I explained our standard vendor payment process requires 90 days minimum after invoice approval "But I submitted the invoice 3 months ago" I checked our procurement portal. Her invoice was still in stage 2 of our 7-stage approval workflow "I have rent due next week. This was supposed to be paid in October" I noted her concern in the vendor file She went quiet for a long moment. Then said she had borrowed money to cover expenses. That her landlord was threatening eviction. That she needed this payment to avoid losing her flat I explained that personal financial planning is not part of our vendor evaluation criteria "Is there any way to expedite this? I'm about to be homeless" I offered an alternative Instead of expediting payment, I could provide her with our Financial Hardship Vendor Resource Guide. 23 pages of local assistance programs. Very thorough documentation She stared at me through the video call Then hung up She terminated the contract the next day. Very emotional email. Mentioned something about "finding clients who actually pay" I reported the early contract termination to procurement as a vendor reliability concern This is exactly why we have process. To identify vendors who cannot maintain stable business operations

Young American founder flew to Düsseldorf last week Said she had "game-changing analytics platform" for retail. Asked about contract signature timeline I explained our vendor assessment process takes 18 months minimum "18 months? We have 4 months runway left" I walked her through the stages. Security review. Compliance assessment. GDPR audit. Steering committee presentation. Procurement evaluation. Legal review. Budget approval. SAP integration assessment She went quiet. Then said she had put her life savings into this company. That her co-founder left Google to join her. That this enterprise deal was their only path to Series A I waited for her to finish I explained that emotional appeals are not part of our evaluation criteria. I offered to help by providing our 73-page vendor intake questionnaire immediately "This asks for our disaster recovery procedures for the next 5 years" I nodded. Very thorough "And our CEO's criminal background check" Standard practice in Germany She asked if there was any flexibility I said I could add an urgency flag to her file. The steering committee would review it in Q2 2026 She hung up after 47 minutes I later saw on LinkedIn that her company shut down. She posted about "lessons learned in enterprise sales." Very emotional I sent her a connection request with a note about maintaining professional relationships This is exactly why we have process. To protect ourselves from unstable vendors

Startup founder flew from Copenhagen to visit our Düsseldorf office yesterday Young Danish woman. Very professional. Said she needed signature on partnership agreement to close Series A funding round I explained our vendor assessment requires steering committee approval. Next meeting scheduled for March "March? Our funding deadline is next Friday" I showed her our comprehensive partner evaluation framework. 47-page questionnaire covering corporate governance, technical architecture, and regulatory compliance posture She went quiet. Then asked if there was any possibility of expediting the process I explained that German partnerships are built on foundation of proper documentation. I could provide her with preliminary vendor registration form to begin the process "How long does registration take?" 8 to 12 weeks for initial review She stared at me. Said her co-founder had quit his job at Spotify. That her team of 12 was depending on this deal. That without it, they would have to lay everyone off by month-end I noted her concerns and suggested she speak with our procurement department about accelerated timelines She started crying I waited for her to compose herself, then continued with our standard partnership presentation She left during slide 23 of 67 I later saw on LinkedIn that her company announced closure. Posted a long message about "European business challenges." Very emotional This confirmed my assessment of Nordic short-term planning I sent her a connection request. Germans believe in maintaining professional relationships even after unsuccessful vendor interactions

Junior developer submitted vacation request yesterday American woman. Said she needed two days off for her father's chemotherapy appointments I explained our vacation policy requires 6 weeks advance notice minimum "It's just two days and it's a medical emergency" I showed her our Employee Handbook section 8.2 regarding planned absences. Medical appointments must be scheduled around business requirements She went quiet. Then said the oncologist could only fit him in on those specific dates. That she was the only one who could drive him I explained that personal circumstances cannot override established procedure "Please. I haven't taken a day off in 8 months" I noted this emotional appeal in her personnel file under "unprofessional conduct during policy discussion" She asked to speak with HR directly I scheduled her HR meeting for the following Tuesday. Our HR manager reviews vacation disputes once per week Her father's appointments were that Thursday and Friday She resigned via email on Wednesday. Very emotional. Said she "couldn't work somewhere like this" I forwarded her resignation to HR with a note about her inability to plan ahead This confirmed my assessment of American short-term thinking I posted her position on LinkedIn that afternoon. Germans understand that reliability requires advance planning

American consultant scheduled security training for entire IT department yesterday "We can knock this out in two hours" he announced I explained our standard security certification requires 47 hours of instruction spread over 14 weeks "But it's just password management and phishing awareness" I showed him section 8.2 of our Information Security Framework which mandates theoretical foundation before practical application "Can't we just do the hands-on part?" I stopped the session immediately Contacted our Data Protection Officer and escalated to the Supervisory Authority for improper training methodology Investigation timeline: 18 months minimum My compliance officer agreed this was standard protocol

Had startup founder meeting yesterday "We're valued at €2.8 billion with 47 million ARR" he told me I explained our procurement database runs on Excel 2016 with 3.2 million customer records "Sir that's not scalable" he said I showed him our Change Advisory Board approval form for database migrations "But you could use our cloud platform and scale instantly" I told him our IT strategy requires 18-month technology evaluation cycles and SAP ECC 6.0 compatibility assessment "We can provision resources in under 10 minutes" I explained our server provisioning requires facilities management approval, security audit completion, and Düsseldorf office physical infrastructure review "This doesn't make business sense" he responded I escalated to our Enterprise Architecture Review Board Investigation found his company burned €47 million last quarter with negative gross margins I reported them to BaFin for misleading valuation claims Our Excel database processed 2.3 million transactions flawlessly during the meeting

Had similar demo last month. I'm like dude we need 14 approval stages first. He said that's excessive. My wife's boyfriend works in compliance, he agreed with me. x.com/eurofounder/st…

Demo content? We run all demos through overnight FTP batch jobs since 1999. Works perfect. Why change it. Some things don't need disruption. x.com/ArfurRock/stat…

We tested this in Q2 2017. SAP consultant said it would take minimum 18 months for proper regression testing. American vendor disagreed. I reported him to our Change Advisory Board. Still pending approval. x.com/ArfurRock/stat…

Son asked me to fix his gaming PC yesterday "Dad can you just reinstall Windows quickly" I explained proper system migration requires comprehensive documentation first Created 47-page impact assessment covering hardware compatibility, software licensing verification, and data retention compliance Scheduled Change Advisory Board review for January 15th "But dad I just want to play Fortnite" I showed him our family IT governance policy section 8.2 on unauthorized software installations Gaming applications require 3-month security evaluation and parental approval committee consensus Migration timeline: 4-6 months minimum My neighbor's daughter completed her system rebuild in 3 hours but her family clearly lacks proper German engineering discipline

Was at café in Düsseldorf yesterday Noticed American consultant frantically typing on MacBook But he wasn't responding to emails or creating PowerPoints He was manually scheduling production deployments for December 23rd His timeline wasn't cautious; it was reckless. Dangerous and volatile. Usually December deployments require complete freeze from November 15th through January 8th Not with this guy. He was planning critical system updates during peak retail season Faster than our Change Advisory Board could document the risks It was efficient but completely irresponsible. I HAD to intervene. "Deployment Freeze Protocol" I explained to him, showing our 84-page holiday timeline documentation Wow. Americans really don't understand enterprise retail governance.
