Hypothetical: You’re the owner of an MLB team. I offer to take $0 salary and sign a minor league contract and go to Low A.
If the “he sucks now” crowd is right and I get lit up, you cut me, lose $0 and there’s no risk to the big league club.
If the “clubhouse cancer” crowd is right, you see it immediately at Low A and cut me. You lose $0 and there’s no risk to the big league club.
If there’s massive negative PR, which we already know there won’t be, you just cut me and move on. The story is dead in a couple days, you lose $0, and there’s no risk to the big league club.
But, assuming none of those things happen, which they obviously wouldn’t, if you like what you see, you can promote me to AA and re evaluate me there. Then AAA. Then the big leagues. If I earn it, which you’d be 100% in control of deciding. If you don’t think I’m good enough, you lose $0 and there’s no risk to the big league club.
You could take away my “antics”. You could take away my social media. You could ask anything of me. If I don’t comply, you cut me, lose $0, and there’s no risk to the big league club.
What logical reason is there to not do this? At worst, you cut me and there’s no risk to the big league club. At best, you get a Cy Young winner for $0 who you know can still pitch and could help the big league team if and when you see fit.

On where things stand with Dexter Lawrence situation, per sources:
-- Dex wants to be traded. Hence the trade request. Was open to a fresh start dating back to start of last year.
-- Giants don't want to give Lawrence a new deal off down year. They've had discussions with other teams about trades.
-- Feeling around league is he's underpaid on current deal. Giants want "a lot" in trade.

This would actually leave cap room to spare to tinker with final AAVs, sign a backup goalie, and it takes into consideration that Palat, Duclair, Engvall may be here to stay for time being (Engvall + Varlamov in LTIR)

#Isles are in similar spot as panthers prior to their run to finals. Borderline. It took a few good moves from GM to turn things around. I don’t know if Forsling junior will be available on waivers again, nor do we know if a Verhaeghe 2.0 can be signed as a ufa. And the Tkachuk trade certainly worked out. Regarding Isles, I’d be ok trading one of Pelech/Pulock but probably not both. Would try to trade for Morgan Rielly, as great as Pelech is defensively, Rielly playing 20-22 minutes behind Schaefer and running 2nd PP would be a net benefit to club. And in theory, he might be attainable since he’s out of favor. Cut bait on the subpar contracts, romy included, I’d include Pageau on that list. Get assets for him, thank Lee for being a beast and excellent all around, then proceed to play a younger core up front with internal competition. Play Eklund unless he flails vs canes. Bring back Beckman and force Engvall to beat him out if he’s healthy again. If not, give Beckman his shot. At this point they’ll have roster space to plug in younger players and I’m not saying a net boost from backend solves their problem, it doesn’t. And it may not have anything close to the effect as Tkachuk had on panthers. However, between the cap space available, would rather need offense and have defensive chips to trade than the inverse.
