This cup-shaped home and tangle-web has been woven by a female mothercare spider, or Phylloneta. The species gained its name through the intense nurture the females give to their young. It is lovely to see the biodiversity that the garden supports! #thwgarden

Just when you thought the #Tories #SuellaBraverman couldn't get more desperate - they're talking of sending asylum seekers 4,000 miles away to #AscensionIsland An idea that's been knocking around the Tory party for 20 yrs, but when they looked at the details no-one was mad enough to push it through Priti Patel tried 3 yrs ago to revive the plan but Treasury blocked it saying the required costs for upgrading the island’s power supply, new desalination facilities, other infrastructure etc would prove exorbitant. That's even before they considered staff (c. 800 live on the island) and environmental costs! Why don't they put all their efforts into turbo-charging the backlog, hiring more borderforce staff, smashing UK trafficking gangs and setting up legal routes. As well as fixing #brokenbritain Time to put compassion, caring and commonsense into politics trueandfairparty.uk

Let's face it. They turn up expecting every entitlement. We give them free accommodation and subsidised food. Some even commit crimes while we fund them! They may pretend to integrate with us, but really they hate our culture and our laws. Put these Tory ministers on a barge.

Chris Bryant, "Parliament is in trouble.. Nearly every day there is a scandal.. I care passionately about democracy.. I just don't think in an ordinary line of work if you miss coming in for over 6 months, like Nadine Dorries, that you'd still be paid." @RhonddaBryant

Acts of love are a gift for those who do them, even before they benefit those who receive them. For whatever we hoard for ourselves will be lost, while whatever we give out of love will be our treasure in heaven. #WYD

GB ‘News’ presenter and occasional MP, McVey, gawps at teachers striking and Andrea🖕Jenkyns wonders why they can’t strike in the school holidays. Neither of these pea-brained culture war warriors seems to understand that public sector strikes are evidence of their own failure.

I've been told by the Home Office that the Cedar Court Hotel will have its asylum occupancy more than DOUBLED from 148 to 306. This is on top of news a third asylum hotel is being forced on Wakefield. I've written to the Home Secretary with @denisemjeffery to demand a rethink!

Idyllic scenes from 1962. Fresh bread deliveries give a glimpse to what supermarkets used to stock on their shelves. Beautiful fashions from the ladies and lots of happy children.

Would anyone actually have voted for Brexit if we’d been told the country would be 4% poorer forever?

250 yrs ago we chose to transport people to Australia because they were vulnerable enough to steal a loaf of bread. Today our government wants to deport others to Rwanda because they are vulnerable enough to seek safety on our shores. Have we learned nothing?

Ministers ignored all warnings about deep problems in this policy - from treatment of torture victims to the risk of making people trafficking worse. Shows shamefully that they care more about picking fights than serious policies. They’ve lost all British decency & common sense
