Ukrainians didnt even give a shit that Crimea was annexed by Russia. Otherwise why didnt they engage in a 'hot' war with Russia in 2014 just like what they're doing right now when Russia annexed huge chunks of Eastern Ukraine. Historically that land belonged to neither the Russians or Ukrainians but the Crimean Tatars instead.
