According to recent epidemiological data, including the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study and the National Socioeconomic Registry Survey, the major cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in Pakistan are highly prevalent.  While exact rankings can vary slightly between urban and rural studies, the following order generally represents the prevalence of these risk factors among the adult Pakistani population: 1. Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) • Prevalence: Approximately 37% to 45% of adults.  • Details: Hypertension is the most significant contributor to cardiovascular mortality in Pakistan. A staggering number of those affected are either unaware of their condition or have poorly controlled blood pressure.  2. Dyslipidemia (High Cholesterol) • Prevalence: Roughly 34% to 49% (varying significantly by gender; often reported around 17% in specific narrower studies). • Details: High levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) and low levels of HDL (good cholesterol) are widespread. This is often linked to dietary habits and genetics. 3. Diabetes Mellitus • Prevalence: Approximately 30.8% (age-adjusted).  • Details: Pakistan has one of the highest rates of diabetes in the world. It is a primary driver for the early onset of coronary artery disease seen in the population. 4. Tobacco Use (Smoking) • Prevalence: Approximately 21% to 25% of adults (specifically over 25% of adult men).  • Details: Smoking is a major causative factor for heart attacks in Pakistan, particularly among younger and middle-aged men. 5. Obesity and Abdominal Fat • Prevalence: Approximately 21% to 24% (BMI ≥ 27.5 or 30 depending on the study). • Details: Physical inactivity and diets high in sodium and processed oils contribute to rising obesity rates. Central obesity (waist circumference) is notably high among Pakistani women. 6. Family History and Genetics • Prevalence: Reported in roughly 12% to 33% of clinical cases. • Details: Pakistan has a high rate of consanguineous marriage (roughly 58%), which is believed to cluster hereditary risk factors for early-onset heart disease.  Other Contributing Factors: • Physical Inactivity: Low levels of exercise are common in both urban and rural settings. • Dietary Habits: High salt intake and the use of trans fats (Vanaspati ghee) significantly increase risk. • Environmental Factors: Air pollution (both ambient and household) is an emerging risk factor linked to CVD in Pakistan. #CVD #healthmatters #heartdisease #awareness

Human rights are not selective or interchangeable. If someone promotes religious bigotry, targets minorities, and still demands their own rights, that contradiction cannot be ignored. Every person’s rights matter, but they cannot be claimed in a way that denies or undermines the rights of others.
