In 1999, Namiko Takaba was stabbed to death in the couple’s apartment in Nagoya, Japan. Despite extensive investigations, the case went cold with no suspect identified. Devastated but determined, her husband Satoru Takaba made an extraordinary decision: he moved out but continued paying rent on the untouched apartment for 26 years, spending roughly $145,000 to preserve the crime scene in perfect condition. His unwavering hope was that future advances in DNA technology would one day solve the case. In 2025, that hope was fulfilled. New forensic techniques allowed investigators to extract a viable DNA profile from samples preserved in the apartment. The profile matched Kumiko Yasufuku, a woman in her late sixties and a former high school classmate of Satoru. Confronted with the evidence, Yasufuku eventually confessed to the murder. Satoru Takaba’s remarkable perseverance and financial sacrifice kept critical evidence intact for over two decades, ultimately bringing justice for his wife long after most would have given up. © Reddit #drthehistories

@EvieSweetlufz @Suzierizzo1 She had to have her uvula (the dangly thing at the back of the throat) removed because it had been partially torn off. So, at best the doctor is incompetent to the point of being guilty of assault. But given that they found semen I’m guessing he’s a rapist.

@SketchesbyBoze There’s got to be a way of phrasing this that isn’t a direct quote but also isn’t fake Saxon. “Men fear the mockery of women. Women fear the violence of men.” Or something

I was reading a novel set in Anglo-Saxon England and a character said, “Men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid men will kill them.” A wonderful book but this completely took me out of the story. Why is a woman in the seventh century quoting Margaret Atwood?

48 female patients came forward to testify to sexual assault by a male Neurologist in Canada. Male judge discounts ALL of them AND the expert testimony of Dr. Vera Bril (a female doctor and expert) who told the court that it is not norm to do vaginal exams, breast exams or exams of other intimate areas during appointments for neurological concerns. Canada. Nothing to do with the justice system makes sense to me anymore.

It requires re-posting - long post. Share among your networks and re-post. Please read to end then contact your local, provincial, or federal leader/representative [Link to news story at end] Male judge Craig Parry (Kitchener) acquits neurologist of 48 counts of sexual assault against 48 female patients. Yes, that's right - 48 female patients came forward. 48 female patients were not believed. 48 female patients apparently deemed unreliable Male judge discounts expert testimony of Dr. Vera Bril - yes, female doctor and expert - who told the court that it is not norm to do vaginal exams, breast exams or exams of other intimate areas during appointments for neurological concerns. Go figure! However, male judge knows better than female doctor/expert. He finds the evidence of 48 women unreliable. He acquits male accused anyway, despite the 'doctor' having had license revoked in 2019 by College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Looking for any male who has had a prostate exam when they went to doctor for neurological concerns. We'd love to year from you. What happened during the acquittal of Jeffrey Sloka? ctvnews.ca/kitchener/arti…

BBC BROKE EQUALITY LAW AND GOT CAUGHT Carrie Gracie spent 30 years at the @BBC. She spoke fluent Mandarin. She ran the Beijing bureau. She was one of four international editors, two men and two women. Then in 2017 the BBC was forced to publish salary data. Gracie looked at what her male equivalent, the North America editor, was earning. He was on nearly double her salary. She had explicitly said equal pay was a condition of taking the China role. The BBC agreed. Then quietly paid her far less anyway. She asked for equal pay. The BBC offered her a raise that still left her below the men. She turned it down. She resigned from the China post in January 2018 and published an open letter telling the licence fee public exactly what their broadcaster was doing. The BBC then put her through nearly a year of an internal grievance process that went nowhere. It took three meetings with the Director-General and the threat of an employment tribunal before she got a public apology and the backdated pay owed to her. The total came to £361,000. She donated every penny to the Fawcett Society (@fawcettsociety), the gender equality charity. She said the fight was about principle, not the payout. A publicly funded institution, legally obligated to follow equality law, paid women less than men in identical roles, got caught, dragged it out for a year, and only coughed up under threat of a tribunal. That is not a pay oversight. That is a policy. Gracie did not ask for a favour. She asked for what she was owed. The BBC made her fight for it like it was a privilege.
