Marco Rubio Has Discovered That NATO Exists Marco Rubio stood at a podium recently and said, with the confidence of a man who has never read anything, that if NATO can’t be used to “project to other contingencies,” then “we have a problem.” He is correct. There is a problem. The problem is Marco Rubio. Article 5 of the NATO treaty has existed since 1949. It says, in language so simple a golden retriever could grasp it, that an attack on one member is an attack on all. That’s it. That’s the whole thing. You don’t need a law degree. You barely need literacy. What Article 5 does not say, and what no page of the NATO founding treaty has ever suggested, is that 31 sovereign European nations signed up to serve as a strategic parking lot for American military adventures on the other side of the planet. Denmark did not join a defensive alliance in 1949 so that, 75 years later, it could help Washington bomb a country it got bored looking at. NATO is a shield. Not a sword. Not a taxi service. Not a valet for whatever impulsive geopolitical tantrum is trending in Washington this quarter. The Americans have now spent 15 months confused by this distinction. Their finest minds, their cabinet secretaries, their very best people, staring at the treaty like a dog watching television. Ears up. Deeply engaged. Understanding absolutely nothing. The good news is that Europe has finally understood something too: you cannot outsource your survival to people who find a single sentence intellectually challenging. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

SECRETARY RUBIO: If one of the reasons why we are in NATO is to have the ability for forces to be deployed in Europe so we could project to other contingencies, and that’s no longer the case, then we have a problem.

Excellent addition, @MIslamMonitor. King Farouk’s post-war protection of the Mufti (luxury villa in Egypt 1946–1953, asylum after he fled French custody) perfectly illustrates how the Nazi-Arab alliance didn’t end in 1945. It simply relocated. A “secular” playboy king openly backing the Mufti’s Islamonazi ideology and even facilitating his escape from justice shows how deep the collaboration ran. The same eliminationist current flowed straight into the Arab states’ recruitment of Nazi war criminals after the war.

Primary source proof — the actual 1943 telegram straight from Himmler’s own hand to the Grand Mufti. Key lines: “The National-Socialist Movement of the Greater German Reich has since its inception upheld the fight against World Jewry … The common recognition of the enemy and the joint struggle against it is what creates the firm foundation between Germany and freedom-seeking Muslims around the world … I am pleased to convey to you … warm wishes for your continued struggle until the great victory.” Lesser-known detail: Himmler timed this for the Mufti to read aloud at a massive Nazi rally in Berlin’s Luftwaffe Hall — while the Mufti was already living as Hitler’s honored guest and personally recruiting thousands of Bosnian Muslims into the Waffen-SS “Handschar” division to fight alongside the Nazis. This wasn’t some vague sympathy. It was a formal, operational alliance against the Jews — documented in real time. The same eliminationist ideology that partnered with the Nazis in 1943 is still alive today.

This Day (May 6) in 1943, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem wrote the Bulgarian Foreign Minister demanding Jewish children be sent to Poland — not British Mandate Palestine — so they could be murdered. While living as Hitler’s honored guest in Berlin, Grand Mufti Amin al-Husseini — the highest religious authority among Palestinian Arabs — sent a chilling letter to the Bulgarian Foreign Minister. Bulgaria was preparing to allow 4,000 Jewish children and 500 Jewish adults to emigrate to safety in British Mandate Palestine. The Mufti was furious. He immediately intervened with his confidants Himmler and von Ribbentrop to cancel the plan and insisted the Jews — including the children — be sent to Poland instead, where they would be under “strict control.” The Mufti knew exactly what “strict control” in Poland meant in 1943. He had personally toured Nazi concentration camps as a VIP guest of the SS and was impressed by the efficiency at which they killed Jews. The Mufti had already spent years in Berlin broadcasting Nazi radio propaganda calling for the extermination of Jews across the Arab world. He actively recruited Muslims for Waffen-SS units. He lobbied Hitler directly to ensure no Jews would escape to British Mandate Palestine. On November 28, 1941, Hitler had assured him: “Germany is determined… to call on the European nations one by one to solve the Jewish problem and, at the proper moment, to address the same appeal to non-European peoples.” The Mufti took that promise seriously and worked tirelessly to make sure it was fulfilled. Even after the war, the Nazi-Arab alliance against Jews continued. Arab states (especially Egypt and Syria) recruited former Nazi war criminals and rocket scientists to build missile programs to target Israel and modernize anti-Israel propaganda with Nazi antisemitic imagery and tactics, giving these Nazis the opportunity to continue the Holocaust, but now against the Jewish state. The Mufti’s letter on May 6, 1943, is a stark reminder that the goal was never “borders” for two states. The goal was the elimination of Jews. That same eliminationist ideology has never gone away. It has simply found new flowery language and new champions for the "cause."

US troops in Germany aren't there to protect Germans. They're there because without German bases, America's reach across Europe, Africa and the Middle East collapses. Ramstein is the largest American air base outside the US. Stuttgart hosts EUCOM and AFRICOM, the commands running US military activity across Europe and Africa. Landstuhl is where wounded American soldiers from Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria were flown for treatment. Drone operations in Somalia are coordinated through German soil. Withdraw them and you don't weaken Berlin, you blind Washington. It's insane most Americans, including Trump, still think they're doing Germany a favour.

Trump thinks Europe needs NATO more than America does. His generals know better. Here’s what the US loses without it. 1. Its European base network Over 50 US military bases across Europe housing 84,000 troops. Ramstein in Germany is the largest US air base outside America and the hub for every US operation in the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia. RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk is home to the only US F-35 wing in Europe, the same base the F-15 shot down over Iran last week flew from. These aren’t gifts to Europe. They are America’s front door to the rest of the world. 2. The geography it can never replace The US sits thousands of miles from every major conflict zone on earth. Europe puts American forces within striking distance of the Middle East, North Africa, the Sahel, the Arctic and Russia’s western border. No aircraft carrier replaces an entire continent. Without European bases America is projecting power across two oceans from a single landmass. That is not a superpower posture, it is an island. 3. Its intelligence network GCHQ, MI6 and European intelligence agencies feed directly into US operations. Five Eyes gives America more global surveillance reach than any other arrangement in history. Lose NATO and that pipeline closes. 4. Two allied nuclear powers The UK and France have independent nuclear arsenals. Outside NATO those weapons are no longer guaranteed to be on America’s side. That is two fewer nuclear powers in your corner. 5. Its arms export market European NATO members are America’s biggest weapons customers. F-35s, Apaches and Patriot missiles, hundreds of billions in contracts. If Europe goes it alone they buy European. Lockheed Martin and Boeing lose their biggest export market overnight. 6. The dollar’s global dominance NATO helps underpins the security order that keeps allies trading in dollars and holding dollar reserves. Collapse that alliance and the shift to alternative currencies accelerates. No single advantage matters more to American prosperity. 7. A trillion-dollar insurance policy 31 other countries have a legal obligation to fight for America if attacked. The only time Article 5 was ever triggered was to defend the US after 9/11. Over 1,100 allied soldiers died in Afghanistan answering that call. No other country on earth has anything close to this. 8. Its seat at the head of the table NATO makes America the leader of the free world. Without it the US is just another big country with a big army stranded between two oceans with no allies. China and Russia would celebrate for a decade. Without NATO, America doesn’t gain independence. It loses an empire.

Today, 15 years ago, Osama Bin Laden met Seal-Team 6 and was killed by them. The largest part of his body is swimming with the fishes, a small part made it to the US.😉 Today is a possible date for a revenge attack, even though I still believe it will be a different date. #OTD

Cable tunnels (in multiple directions) for a huge ~60.000m2 underground Nuclear bunker complex near Frankfurt. I went in for around a kilometer, then returned (seems to have no end). There are around 1.200 bunkers in Germany that are being assessed, selected for possible reuse.

Americans love banging on about the War of Independence. They’re quieter on the War of 1812. Here’s why. In 1812, America declared war on Britain. The plan was to march into Canada and annex it. Thomas Jefferson said it would be “a mere matter of marching.” It wasn’t. The Canadians sent them packing. Two years later, the British sailed up the Potomac. American forces collapsed at Bladensburg in what’s still called “the Bladensburg Races” because of how fast they ran. President Madison had already fled to Maryland. The British walked into Washington unopposed. They sat down in the White House, ate the dinner Dolley Madison had laid out for forty guests, used the President’s silver, then set fire to the building. Then they burned the Capitol, the Treasury and the Navy Yard. A freak thunderstorm put the fires out the next day. The British left when they were ready. It’s still the only time a foreign army has captured the US capital. You can see why it doesn’t come up much.

America told Europe to spend more on defence for 30 years. Europe finally listened. Then built its own industry, cancelled the contracts, and stopped returning Washington's calls. open.substack.com/pub/gandalv/p/… Rheinmetall up 323%. Saab up 284%. €38 billion gone from American order books in a single year. This is the story of the greatest self-inflicted industrial catastrophe in modern history, told with the numbers, the contracts, and the names of every country that quietly walked out the door.

‼️🇺🇸🇪🇺 Trump: I am very, very disappointed in NATO because they weren’t there. He says the U.S. has spent “trillions” protecting Europe from Russia while carrying the alliance for decades. You know, we spend trillions of dollars on NATO in order to protect Europe from Russia, and we’ve always been there... They can’t do it without us.
