FSD Supervised has 360 degree awareness & can react much faster than a human Here, it detects a broken down vehicle in-lane & moves over to avoid a collision

Thank you to FSD.

Safe, safer, safest, Cybertruck! 📐
Sawyer Merritt@SawyerMerritt

The IIHS has released a new list of the top 5 safest large pickup trucks you can currently buy. 1) Tesla Cybertruck (electric) 2) Toyota Tundra (gas) 3) Rivian R1T (electric) 4) Ford F-150 (gas) 5) Ram 1500 (gas) The @Tesla Cybertruck just received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, the best possible rating, and was the only electric truck to get that rating. Earlier this year, the Cybertruck also received a 5-Star safety from the NHTSA. The Cybertruck had the lowest overall probability of injury & lowest chance of rollover of any pickup truck tested by the NHTSA.

Key New Zealand Statistics: • Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) Data, 2024: Emergency services attended 1,875 vehicle fires in the previous year (2023 data). While FENZ doesn’t provide a full public breakdown by vehicle type, ongoing work is underway to improve tracking. However, verified EV battery fire incidents in NZ remain extremely low, with only 6 recorded cases since 2010 (none resulting in injuries, fatalities, or confirmed charging-related causes). This contrasts sharply with the thousands of annual ICE vehicle fires, as EVs make up only about 3-4% of the NZ fleet but account for a negligible fraction of incidents. • Drive Electric New Zealand Analysis (2025): Citing global research firms adapted to NZ context, ICE vehicles have a 1.5% lifetime fire risk, compared to just 0.03% for EVs—making EVs approximately 50 times less likely to ignite. This aligns with NZ’s low EV fire reports and the absence of flammable fuels in EVs. • NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) and EV FireSafe Report (2023-2024): NZTA’s risk assessment references U.S. data but applies it to NZ projections, showing ICE vehicles at 1,530 fires per 100,000 sold versus 25 per 100,000 for EVs (a 61-fold difference). With NZ’s EV fleet growing to ~150,000 by mid-2025 (out of ~5 million total vehicles), the per-vehicle fire rate for EVs remains dramatically lower, supported by local incident tracking. • EV FireSafe NZ-Specific Breakdown (2010-2024): Out of ~510 verified global EV battery fires across 40 million EVs, NZ accounts for just those 6 incidents (0.0012% rate per EV). ICE vehicles, by comparison, show a 0.1% overall fire risk based on country-level reports cited in NZ studies—83 times higher than EVs.

I agree with @NZ_Tim93, Tesla is testing their vehicles every winter at the Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds SHPG in Cardrona, just 30min away from Queenstown. They did so with the Cybertruck in 2023 before it got released, as well as with the new Model Y variants this winter. They often have sensors and add ons installed and are sometimes covered up but they do not put too much effort in disguising themselves. They often leave the proving grounds in their test vehicles to drive around the area. Very common down here. I hope this helps.

@SawyerMerritt This is getting winter tested at the SHPG in New Zealand at the moment. It’s sometimes cruising around (with the same covers as in the picture) on public roads in Wanaka, too.
